An amateur soccer match turned outright barbaric, leading to the deaths of a match referee and player in northeastern Brazil.

According to multiple reports from Maranhão, match referee Octavio da Silva Catanhede Jordan allegedly stabbed Josenir dos Santos Abreu to death after an argument with the player during a game on June 30.

The 20-year-old referee reportedly had a knife with him at the match and attacked Santos Abreu. The 31-year-old footballer was pronounced dead on arrival by a local hospital.

What subsequently happened was more appalling.

After witnessing the horrific attack, family and friends of the player reportedly invaded the pitch to lynch the referee, who was gruesomely quartered and decapitated by the mob, which later hung his head on a stake.
In an official statement, Valter Costa, police chief of Santa Ines in Maranhão, confirmed the ongoing investigation and assured the public that suspects were being questioned.

“Reports of witnesses have indicated some people that were in place at the time of the fact. We will identify and hold accountable all those involved. A crime will never justify another. Actions like this do not collaborate with the legality of a state law.”

Should have seen similar results used against the replacement refs following the Seattle/GB debacle.

The game was called bad both ways. Green Bay got a bogus pass interference call on 4th and short at mid field in 4th quarter that led to a touchdown. Other than the missed pass interference against Tate, the refs actually got the last play right. Tate had simultaneous possession and had 2 feet on the ground. Green Bay defender did not have 2 feet on the ground at the time. No one has ever showed me where Tate ever lost possession on that play.

Seems like overkill. In the USA, we just punch them once in the head and they die.

Soccer sucks.

Biased much?

You are 1 of the 3:

A.) Had money on Seattle.
B.) Are a huge Seattle fan.
C.) Hate the Packers with a passion.

And I am sure you will admit to none of the 3.

I guess you still can't show where wide receiver never had possession. When it's dual possession it goes to the offense. I guess mike tirico can get any mob going. Sounds like you're either a huge packers fan with blinders, or lost a lot of money on the game. How come you never mentioned the horrible pass interference call in the 4th that led to packers only TD? Obviously you're unbiased. Amazing how people don't have understanding of the rule.

When did squeezing one arm into the body of the guy that caught the ball turn into dual possession...:ohno:

To be a catch a player must have BOTH feet on the the ground or a body part other than the hand. At what point in the video did Jennings have both feet on the ground or a body part where Tate didn't have at least 2 hands and 10 fingers on the ball?
