Ever Lose A Money Order?

My apartment complex only takes money orders for payment so every month I venture off and get one for $750. It is actually $500 for the one and $250 for the other.

Somehow I lost these money orders (going a few months back) I was at work this day and I don't know how they are gone but they were.

I went back to where I purchased them and the clerk remembered me purchasing them. I told the clerk what time I was
in [within a few minutes) and what else I purchased. The clerk gives me a copy of the store transaction which
shows the money order numbers on there, etc

So I write to Western Union and I fill out their form and have it notarized and send in $30 to have everything researched and get a refund.

The response I got back was surprising in that they more or less said that I proved that there was a "transaction" but didn't prove "ownership".

I do my best to provide further documentation. I enclose a copy of my rent statement showing the $750 as my base rent. I also enclose a copy of money orders purchased a couple weeks later (same amount) to replace the $750 I had lost. I also enclosed a copy of the prior month's money order receipt again showing the same amount purchased.

I am frustrated because I can go onto their automated system and it says the money orders have not been cashed.

Everything is via "snail mail" and I am frustrated. There's no chicanery here, the money orders haven't been cashed yet
I feel like I am getting dicked around.

This would be a very unfortunate thing to go through. Losing money like that may as well be cash. I suppose it ended up in a garbage somewhere because you would imagine someone cashing it in if they found and didn't return it.

You are getting dicked around cus there is no way to hold them accountable. Refunds from them may take up to a year. They are worse than dealing with slow paying sportsbooks. They will take every step to not have to pay you and drag it out hoping you'll blow it off or die. Stay on em and they will eventually pay....which will be by another money order that you'll go thru hell getting cashed. Its a total bitch anyway u look at it.

you've gone through the proper channels and did things via their process so i'm pretty confident you'll get the $ back. It'll take 1.5-2 months though

Yes.... Hope you get the money back. Crazy it's that hard to stop payment on it and get the money back...

It is something that still bothers my conscience.
When I moved away for College, I had everything I owed in my car, banks account cleared ect... Well, I lost my entire wallet ^<<^ the biggest blessing in all this is I agreed to send money for my sublet apt ahead of time. So rent was paid, but I literally was broke as broke could be. I had literally $20 bill, plus some stuff to pawn, moving into my apt... My grandma who makes like 19k a year sent me WU me $200 and sent me a Money order for $300... I got WU... but somehow went on to lose moneyorder... never had the heart to tell her...

Several years in the mail to pay the IRS.

They claim they never received it.

I should have insured the money orders but just didn't know better at the time, but fortunately they could see that they were never claimed or cashed and reimbursed me...
