Isn't a lifetime ban too harsh?

I am no Arod apologist. He cheated everybody in the stands, on his team and in the league. He played games with drugs repeatedly and lied repeatedly about his use of PED's. But...

...this is a lifetime ban (if the rumors are true). Man baseball has done it before...Shoeless Joe Jackson comes to mind and I wished he had played a bit longer.

Maybe at Arod's age a 3-year ban would be as good as lifetime....

Oh, and his salary losses could be as high as 100 Mil...endorsements too. I don't know any fine or penalty that high.

Just saying...

I do understand differing opinions.

So sick of hearing about him. His entire career is a farce. I hope it is just done once and for all.

If you ban him for more than 2 years its just as good as a lifetime.. seriously there is no difference.. Dude is done and already made something like 400 million.. Lets move on

At first I kinda thought ya, but if he keeps trying to deny and fight it in the face of overwhelming evidence, after already having lied and admitting to having lied a few years back, he's basically then trying to make a joke out of everyone/everything involved..
At that point I couldn't blame them for any punishment they saw fit. Shit make him sleep with Madonna again, anything goes at that point.

I guess ol Pete Rose isn't looking so bad now. Gambling is nothing now, half the country does it and the other half wishes they could. Now who looks bad for the game of baseball.

Maybe I'm out in "left field" but I feel like the only way to really attempt to rid the game of PED is lifetime ban for a 2nd offense. I argue everybody deserves a second chance, but if you get caught a second time....it should be as ken the hawk harrelson says "HE GONE" and gone for life

A lifte time ban will deter most of the cheaters out there. Obviously, there will always be the cheaters who think they can get away with it the second time around...but once players get banned for life, it'll be like a cold splash of water on some of these dumb fucks.

if he was 26 then yeah probably too harsh but at 38 it's really like a 2 or 3 year ban at most. dude wasn't going to be playing at 44 (well, not without some pharmaceutical assistance)

there is a ton of shady shit involved in this process. MLB is really embarrassing itself, so much that it might become the next NBA.

haha u wished Shoeless Joe Jackson had played longer? u weren't around for 70 more years. That's a bizarre statement. The guy rigged a World Series w/ Gandil and Rothstein's money. How could you let him play the game another day?

as for Arod, Mosi said it best - his entire career of statistics and record contract were fabricated through the usage of PEDs. Get rid of this guy for good. A cheat is a cheat. Clean up the sport by harsh punishments on marquee wrongdoers and scare everyone else into complying with the rules.

It is too bad because he was such a natural talent without the juice. Or maybe he has always been the juice since high school.

Agree with brewerfan above, if the League and PA really want to rid the game of HGH and other PED's than the punishment needs to be severe. Get caught and you automatically receive a one year ban, perhaps even have your contract voided. Get caught a second time and you are done with MLB and your contract is definitely voided. You would most likely lose all endorsements if it were to come to this point. If you void contracts it places a a different quotient into the equation that will scare most.

While we are at it, for God's sake stop making the winner of the All-Star game get home field in the World Series.

Shoeless Joe was the one guy that didn't take the money and didn't dog it in the series.
He hit like .580 for the series with multiple sick defensive plays from what I've read.

Hadn't thought of that odee...you make a helluva point. It is time to lift the ban on Rose. He was a jerk off the field but one of the greatest players on the field...how do you keep him out of the Hall forever?

I am no expert Short...but the book I read had his statistics for the series and he played really well. The rest of it I don't know.
