The most valuable rookie ever?

Ok, I'm a homer. Grew up listening to Vin Scully under my covers with a transistor radio in my ear. But I have never seen a rookie called up mid season have such a dramatic effect on a team.

I know that the Dodgers bullpen has been lights out and that Hanley is a beast and Gonzalez is hitting...but Puig has ignited this team like no other rookie I have ever seen. Or at least I can remember.

Tonight in St. Louis Puig one-handed a ball off the right field wall and threw it in one continuous motion to the cut off man playing second base and the runner was thrown out at the plate. For old timers that kind of play is Roberto Clemente stuff.

Dodgers starting to just bull rush teams.

Puig is like the energizer bunny but another rookie this year is as cool as they come. I think Will Myers who came up about two weeks after Puig did, at seasons end will have better stats than Puig. He already in more than 50 less AB's than Puig has more RBI's than Puig, & with 8 HR's to Puig's 11 will catch Puig in that catagory also. Both there teams have been light years better with them than they were before hand.

I remember Vin Scully with Brooklyn, the other 2 Dodger announcers I think were Connie Desmond & Red Barber!

I'm a admitted pretty big homer so take my suggestion with a grain of salt but when Ichiro burst on the scene in 2001 it was ridiculous. If he would've broken out in today's 24/7 media world it would've been insane.

While I have to agree with both of you...Ichiro was an explosion of media...I do think however, it was the uniqueness of him being a Japanese player in Seattle with such a huge natural following.

There aren't that many Cubans in LA...his noise was created by just plays on the field in every one of the 5 categories...hitting, fielding, arm, hitting with power, speed on the bases etc.
