House rules may vary from casino to casino, but most will hit on a soft 17, as it's slightly to their advantage.

You have to read the rules before you sit down. Very important. I hate playing when they hit on soft 17. House advantage. They aren't changing the rules to benefit the players.

Also I have another question. Do you find it to throw out the basic principles when playing blackjack.do you find yourself sometimes hitting on hands you would normally not if others are at the table

Curious what kind of hands do you change from basic strategy based on people at the table?

I play the same way regardless of other players being there. Although, sometimes I cringe a bit inside if I make a count-driven play that is against basic strategy when I know someone is going to start with the "you took the dealer's bust card" or "you should have hit that 16, now the whole table lost"

conditions change all the time, sometimes from table to table in the same casino and the same pit

I don't change based on being heads-up with dealer, but I really don't get a lot of chances to play one on one.
Are you saying heads-up you get off your game and start hitting hands you know you shouldn't?

its not that you get off your game, its just that without cards changing up so much with others at the table, its just you take different chances or hits when you otherwise would not
