The Arena Corinthians stadium in Sao Paulo will host the opening match of the World Cup in 2014.

More soccer fans want World Cup tickets than there are seats for some of the most anticipated matches, making even ticket-buying a competition.

SAO PAULO — Tickets for next year's World Cup went on sale online on Tuesday with 16 of the 64 matches immediately seeing a high number of applicants, including the opening match in Sao Paulo and the final in Rio de Janeiro.
Over one million World Cup finals ticket requests were made within the first seven hours of public sale, soccer's world governing body FIFA said on Tuesday.

The first phase of sales for next year's tournament runs until October 10 and FIFA said more than 163,000 people had made requests on Tuesday for various games.

The opening match on June 12 at the Arena de Sao Paulo (over 168,000 requests) and the final at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro (more than 165,000) were the two most popular games.

The most requests for tickets came from Brazil, Argentina, the United States, Chile and England, added FIFA.
A lottery will be held to decide the distribution for games which are over-subscribed.

Ticket prices for international fans for the final range from $440 to $990 while prices for group stage matches run from $90 to $175. There are various discounted prices for local fans.

Good luck with tickets. Part of the problem is that you have to buy tickets now for various venues and "groups", but you won't know where your team (USA) is playing until well down the road. To complicate things further, they are basically just guessing at the number of tickets they are selling right now because the stadiums are not completed yet.

With all that said, it would be an amazing trip no matter what teams you ended up watching.

The ticket buying process is literally about a 10 step procedure.

Yeah, i just got a head full of the process. It really doesn't make since, like you said, because you wont know what teams you are paying for. I guess you could always sell them and purchase ones you did want later. It doesnt matter if you buy them now or up until Oct 10th as they will hold a lotto to see who gets the tickets. Yeah, it would definately be a great experience.

I'm gonna go as well.

Put in for the semis, finals, and one quarter final in Rio. My hope is to go to about 7-8 games from the round of 16 on but will wait on the draw and maybe even to see how the US does before picking up some tickets late. Prob have to pay scalpers but such is life.

Figure I'll bounce around Rio, San Paulo, and Bella Horizonte. Want to go see Fortaliza and maybe Filinopolis as well. Planning 2-3 weeks.

Gonna be the biggest party of our life times.
