there are only a handful of starters in the WORLD that consistantly crank it up 95+ and stay healthy. Just like the big men in basketball just dont think our bodies are meant to do that type of physical workload over time. Hell i played D1 baseball and my body cant handle mens league softball at 25 now lol

Loved watching him pitch. I felt a no hitter could come at any time. Big loss for baseball.

I concur as when I would watch him, I thought either a no hitter like you mentioned or a chance for a perfect game!

I swear the more they baby these pitchers at every level of baseball the more harm they do..

I completely agree! While athletes today have more talent versus yesteryear, I am convinced that they are not as durable. This always brings up the interesting debate about whether the technological advances has really helped or actually hindered the modern day athlete.

I dont know if its necessary technological advances but more new ways of doing old things. 90% of the lifts i see people doing at the gym or weird techniques for warming(especially baseball) im like what the hell could that possible help, keep it simple stupid

this is gonna lead more teams to take the Nationals approach towards Strasburg in 2012 unfortunately

NY Mets did it bassackwards really in terms of how the industry takes care of arms these days and how the Nats took care of theirs in a competitive year.

apparently all the top pitchers need to have TJ surgery at some point in their careers --
i say don't baby them when they are young --
and let them tear the tendons so they can go ahead and have the surgery -- sooner rather than later.

i heard Keith Hernandez say on the Mets broadcast the other day that Adam Wainwright had the same issue with his arm as Harvey
and pitched another 7 years with the partial tear before it actually fully tore before he had TJ surgery.
