Bought this television today: [h=1]VIZIO E601i-A3 60-inch 1080p 120Hz Razor LED Smart HDTV [/h]

Any advice on improving the sound and what route to go?

I'm not sure if I want speakers all over the place or not, for surround sound.

Suggestions?

Thanks fellas

Spend 2-3x as much on the sound as you did the TV. Just messing, but that is the general rule. How big is the room it is being viewed in? If you aren't crazy about speakers everywhere, a decent little sound bar may bee good enough to suit you...

Haven't got that far yet 8ate.

Lost the female in your life, will make it much easier to hear the tv

Ha I hear ya Nick

Thanks for the advice on the sound bar guys
The room isn't that large.

As for the sound bar, I was trying to figure out how it sits right in front of your television without being in the way or too noticeable.
That is where it would sit, correct?

Sorry I'm not ignorant when it comes to technology, but just haven't dealt with this particular area...Thanks again

If you want easy to hook up, and great sound, then get a Sonos Playbar. It will knock your socks off right out of the box. When you save up a little more dough, you can expand it with some Play 5's and you'll have a full system. It will also connect to the internet, so it can play all your songs from your laptop or phone with no wires.

You have to get some sort of extension sound. With these flat screen tvs the speakers are always in the back so they just dont reflect towards the watcher. My Mom has her tv in kind of a cabinet, i put the sound bar all the way up top and you cant even see it but it blasts the entire room. There are some very cheap bars, like $99 bucks. They are ok but since she likes to watch NASCAR i got a lil better 1 with a wireless subwoofer for around $275.
Its worth the extra money when you hear the difference it makes. Even better since i know you got plenty of cash is to call Best Buy and let the GeekSquad come in and set the whole thing up.

I'm tellin ya, you didn't spend $99 for your TV, so don't try to spend $99 for your sound. Not even worth "upgrading" at that price.

Watch the video. This thing is amazing, and simple. Any Rx poster could hook it up, and that's a bold claim. They have them at the Magnolia thing in Best Buy if you wanna hear it yourself before buying. It's good stuff, so it won't be on sale.

Build your own system. You can do it for as little as just over a dime and I guarantee you will not regret it. Whatever you do don't go with a Bose HTIB.

This does look to sound pretty sweet (granted its a commercial on the site). I might have to try one of these. Thanks Ivy

For those of you with the subwoofer along with the soundbar... Do you have it hanging or hidden somewhat? Is it sticking out like a sore thumb?

I don't have one but some friends that do hide the sub behind a chair or couch, out of the way but where it still sounds good enough.

All hooked up guys and although the soundbar sounds great, I'm confused about the Subwoofer.

Is it NOT supposed to put out much sound?

The sub won't do anything unless there's low bass/rumbling sounds to play. Rent yourself a couple of action move dvd's and you'll hear it come to life. Opening scene in Saving Private Ryan, the first battle scene of Gladiator, Avatar when they cut down the tree, etc.
