Arian Foster (calf, back) is practicing in full for Week 1.

Finally 100 percent, Foster is good to go for Monday night's opener, but coach Gary Kubiak has already said his workload will be limited as the team eases him back into action. Foster will probably see somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-18 touches. One of the top goal-line backs in all of football, there's a strong chance Foster will find the end zone, but the limited workload makes this the rare week he's more RB2 than RB1.

Speaking Monday, Texans coach Gary Kubiak called Arian Foster (hamstring) "day to day."
This jibes with what Foster said following Sunday's loss, but not with the fact that he was ruled out so quickly against the Chiefs. Either way, the Texans aren't going to supply a substantial update during their bye week. For now, Foster should be considered 50-50 for Week 9.

Arian Foster (hamstring) expects to be ready for Week 9.
Foster is always wildly optimistic about his return timetables, but there will be no real reason to doubt him until the Texans return to practice next Wednesday. That's when we'll get our first concrete clue as to his Week 9 status.

Coach Gary Kubiak stated Monday he anticipates making a late-week decision on the availability of Arian Foster (hamstring) and Ben Tate (ribs).
"Very concerned," Kubiak said. "We understand Ben’s situation. I think they’re both going to give us everything they can to try to play this week. I don’t think we’re going to know anything until later in the week." The Texans have signed three running backs since Saturday -- Deji Karim, Dennis Johnson, and Ray Graham. Tate has been adamant he will play in Week 9, while Foster has been less committal, though Arian does expect to practice at some point.

Arian Foster (back) remained out of Texans practice Thursday.
Per interim coach Wade Phillips, Foster was meeting with doctors, just as he was doing on Wednesday. Foster can be all but ruled out for Sunday, while the doctors visits aren't a particularly great sign for his status beyond Week 10. Ben Tate (ribs) will carry the load against Arizona, and be backed up by Dennis Johnson.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Arian Foster (back, hamstring) will head to injured reserve next week.
Per RapSheet, Foster needs back surgery, which is expected to happen "very soon," perhaps Wednesday or Thursday. The I.R. transaction will likely take place on Monday. Foster consulted multiple back specialists in an effort to find one who wouldn't recommend the procedure, but couldn't. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported 3-of-3 doctors told him the surgery was needed. Foster is battling a lumbar spine issue. He was playing well before going down, and costs a reasonable $5.75 million in 2014. We don't think Foster will be an offseason cap casualty unless the Texans decide to "blow it up" and undertake a full-on rebuild.

Texans interim coach Wade Phillips wouldn't confirm or deny Monday that Arian Foster needs year-ending back surgery.
On Sunday morning, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Foster would be placed on injured reserve this week. The transaction hasn't happened yet. Phillips was evasive enough that we still suspect the move is coming by Wednesday.

Texans placed RB Arian Foster on injured reserve with a back injury, ending his season.
Foster finishes the season with just four carries after October 13. It's Foster's first trip to injured reserve, but hardly the first injury for a player increasingly plagued by lower-body issues. Foster needs surgery on his back, which is always troubling news, but especially for a player who takes as many hits as a between-the-tackles running back. That being said, Foster should be ready for next summer's camp. Due $5.75 million, he should also be back with the Texans provided they're comfortable with his health. They'll go with Ben Tate and Dennis Johnson in Foster's absence. With the injury-prone Tate playing through four broken ribs, it's quite possible Johnson ends up Houston's lead back before the year is through. Turning 28 next August, Foster has logged 1,191 touches since the beginning of the 2010 season. That's a mammoth workload.
