I regretted not accepting it a few days after I turned it down....I haven't made contact with their HR lady yet, but see they're still advertising the opening. I don't want to be or act out of line but sending off an email stating I would like to take the job...I was an engineer for CAT till my company moved to GA and I choose not to go, pay is slightly less than I was making, drive and benefits about the same. Thought I'd collect unemployment for a few weeks and find something really spectacular but I'm already going nuts from boredom.
How people go months to years with a job is beyond me.
I tried it once. I had only been self -employed a short while when a company ask me to come in. Made me a fantastic offer but there was 1 thing i they wanted that i felt made it a bad deal for me personally. I ask them to reconsider and they said they couldnt so i turned it down. After thinking about a few days i felt i could work around it so i called them back......They said thanks but no thanks...

I can tell you a similar story from the other side. I accepted a job that fell into my lap out of the blue several months back that was very similar to what I was doing/always done, much smaller and said "laid back" work environment, and an almost 40% pay raise to start, although no benefits other than 401k. Long story short, the only guy I had to work with other than the owner was a complete disrespectful jerk. The job was easy and the pay was promising, but no way in hell would I wish this guy on anyone, so me and the owner came to an agreement after 3 weeks to part ways. He made it sound like it was no big deal and to "just get my old job back." This leads me to your delimma basically. So, I decided to try and get my old job back. they were still trying to fill the position, and were actually trying to hire 2-3 more as well when I left. I heard from a friend who works there that my letter/email was brought up in a meeting with all the Managers, but the Manager and my Direct Supervisor never did tell me yes or no. So, here I am SOL and back to the basement. I would say reach out and go for it, the worst they can say is no I guess. If they say yes, then swallow the pride, go to work, and act like nothing ever happened...

thank you for your input. working up the nerve to send the email, will keep everyone updated. I feel there's a 25% shot they're willing to offer it to me again, they were head over heals in love with me, BUT as a poster said above...no place wants to be your second choice.
The thing I haven't mentioned yet, which I am not sure if it makes much difference....but I did go thru a complete physical/drug test/background check for them...before telling them I didn't want to accept.
