Troubled Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller reportedly has more legal issues, and this time they stretch into another state
Miller, currently serving a six-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy and cited last week for speeding and driving with a suspended license, has an open warrant for his arrest in California, The Denver Post reported Wednesday, citing Susan Schroeder, spokeswoman for the Orange County District Attorney's Office.
Miller was also arrested last month while trying to purchase a firearm when a routine background check revealed he had an outstanding warrant. In that case, Miller failed to appear for a court hearing on charges from last October when he was cited for careless driving and not having a license or proof of insurance.
As for the California warrant, which The Post reported stems from a failure to appear for a traffic ticket that was issued in 2012, its impact on Miller when the Broncos travel to California is unclear. Denver is scheduled to play the Chargers in San Diego on Nov. 10 and the Raiders in Oakland on Dec. 29 in the regular-season finale.
Broncos spokesman Patrick Smyth told The Post, "We are looking into the report."
When The Post reached Miller's agent, Joby Branion, he said, "There is no arrest warrant," but The Post said he would not elaborate further on the record.
On Wednesday, following the news of last week's driving violations, Broncos coach John Fox had some harsh words for the third-year player.
''Obviously, it's something that we're not happy about,'' Fox said. ''Everybody here has an individual responsibility not only to themselves but to this organization, as well as to this football team. So, obviously it's something that we're not pleased about. I'll leave it at that.''
When asked whether the latest transgressions could lead to further punishment from the league, Fox said, ''You'd have to ask the commissioner that. That's not my lane.'' The AP reported that the NFL declined comment.
Miller has 30 sacks in his first two seasons. The No. 2 overall pick out of Texas A&M in the 2011 Draft can return to the Broncos under the current terms of his suspension (which could cost him more than $2 million) before Week 7's game at Indianapolis.
