Any tips? Like how long it should be. Suppose I should get started on it later today, the wedding is tomorrow.

I did last year. My speech was great. I approached just like any presentation and practiced a lot the week before.

I took various tips from watching youtube videos of great best man speeches as well as adding a lot of personal things that him and I had been through.

First step I would recommend, check out youtube. You can get some great jokes and things from there.

Here is how it should go.

1. Introduction
2. small joke
3. talk about bride
4. talk about groom
5. close with something personal

pepper some appropriate jokes throughout

Keep it short and sweet. At a wedding last week a best man droned on for 10-15 minutes while reading off multiple pages. I had never witnessed anything that fuked up before at a wedding. It was brutal. Trust me short and sweet.

Keep it short.

General speech is to tell a funny and slightly embarrassing story about the groom. But with family and parents there, it needs to be PG-13. Doubt the groom wants you telling a story about his DUI or the first time he banged his fiancé. Then, you can find a segway from the story about how this bodes well for their marriage or something like that. So long as you get a laugh or two, its a good speech. My experience is that the bridesmaids often tell the sweet stories and some start crying. Therefore the guys need to add humor to the night.

Resist the urge to get hammered before giving the speech. I was the best man at my sisters as she married a very good friend of mine and I was shit faced. I ended up getting pretty emotional and cried through a good part of it. I had notes on a card and since just about everyone there knew about my propensity to gamble on games. I started out with something like "dolphins -4, jets -2, packers -7......" then said "oh shit wrong card." that drew a decent laugh.

I bet Christopher Walken would give a damn good best man speech / toast .. while breaking all of Justin's structure. That said... structure / practice is the safest way to go. OR ... you can go Walken on everyone and maybe deliver something no one will ever forget.

You only live once ...

At my sister's wedding the best man did a pretty hilarious joke,

He asked them to hold each others hands, look deep into each others eyes. "Now" he said, "Statistically, you are looking in the eyes of the person most likely to kill you"
