Steven Jackson (thigh) has been officially ruled out for Week 3.

"It's short term," coach Mike Smith said of Jackson's absence. "Don't know if that's two or three weeks." It means Jackson will almost certainly miss Week 4, and may not be seen again until after Atlanta's Week 6 bye. It leaves the Falcons with just replacement-level talents Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling at running back. Rodgers should see by far the most touches, but Snelling should get looks near the goal-line. A poor runner between the tackles, Rodgers will be a dicey FLEX play in standard formats, and is best left quarantined to PPR leagues.

Steven Jackson (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday.
As expected. The Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday evening that Jackson's chances of playing this week were "not good." Jason Snelling (concussion) returned to a full practice. He and Jacquizz Rodgers will carry the load. Jackson's 30-year-old body is clearly breaking down, slowing his recovery time.

According to FOX's Jay Glazer, Steven Jackson (hamstring) had a setback this week.
Older players often struggle to recover from soft-tissue injuries and hamstring pulls are especially tricky. Jackson's timetable is completely unknown right now as we don't know the severity of this setback. All we know is that he hasn't even practiced since originally sustaining the injury in Week 2. The vastly improved Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling will continue to operate in a 60/40 timeshare indefinitely.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Steven Jackson (hamstring) "plans on playing" Sunday against the Cardinals.
Jackson returned to practice Wednesday on a limited basis and will attempt to play for the first time since suffering his hamstring injury in Week 2. If active, he'll handle all early down and short-yardage work, with Jacquizz Rodgers remaining the preferred passing-down back.

Steven Jackson (hamstring) is active for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Jackson will start and figures to get the majority of early-down work as long as his tender hammy cooperates. We can't project anything more than third-down work and a change-of-pace role for Jacquizz Rodgers even though Jason Snelling (ankle) is inactive. The Falcons will also be without LT Sam Baker (knee), leaving Lamar Holmes on Matt Ryan's blind side. The rest of the Falcons inactives: LB Stephen Nicholas, G Harland Gunn, WR Roddy White, WR Brian Robiskie and DT Travian Robertson.
