IRVING, Texas – Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo anticipates needing another painkilling injection to get his sore ribs through Sunday's game with the Rams.

Romo injured his ribs when he was sandwiched in a sack in the season opener against the Giants. Although there was no fracture, he needed an injection to play last Sunday in Kansas City and expects to take another one this week.

"Too early to tell right now, but I think tentatively we're planning on it just because of the nature of it and what we thought," Romo said. "But we'll see as we get there."

Even with the injection, Romo's mobility looked limited at times in Sunday's game. His passing accuracy also seemed to be off late in the game, leading to speculation that the injection was wearing off.

Romo said the injection can last from three to five hours, depending on the individual, but would not say that it affected his play.

"I don't know if that was a part of it," Romo said. "More than anything, I've gotten shot up before for a rib. It seems like it's a normal part of playing quarterback in the National Football League. You go out there and you play and you do it."

Based on how he felt after practicing Wednesday, Romo indicated he was optimistic that this may be the last week he needs an injection.

"Just normal rib stuff, and hopefully…we'll be toward the end of it this coming weekend," Romo said. "It does feel better now than it did last week. It will just keep getting better and better this week."
