I went to New Orleans Thursday-Saturday to party it up for my friends bachelor party. I must say that I had a blast because we were blackout'd drunk 90% of the time, however, the city was a complete turn off. We stayed a few blocks from Bourbon St and in the 3 days we had 20+ bums begging for a beer, a cig and/or money. None of the property looked any good, graffiti everywhere etc. And this was everywhere, well at least the 30+ blocks we walked in circumference to where we stayed.

Like I said, I had a blast and it was my first time there so the party experience was great, but lets just say I wouldn't visit there for any other reason than maybe a sporting event or go down to party.

That's New Orleans man.
What you saw had nothing to do with the hurricane.

The 30 blocks you stayed at is virtually the same as it was before Katrina.

Its New Orleans.

You are always going to have bums ask for cigs.

But this thread is confusing.

You said you loved it and had a blast but at the same time hated it.

New Orleans is no different than any other big city. Some parts are good while others are bad.

Bourbon St. barely got hit by Katrina so if you were thinking that, think again.

Didn't most of the Nigerians get displaced never to move back....thus making it safer by definition ?

I've never been there.

There's a reason they call it the Dirty South. Bourbon St is what it is, a grimy soulful place to drink alot and listen to live music.

A lot of the "criminal element" on the street moved to Texas. It is a lot better now.

Texas somehow got stuck with a lot of the criminal element. For every 100 of them, 1 turned out to be a good cook and opened up an eatery. An even exchange I would say. Lol....

took the family thee for a couple days back in april. Cruise was leaving from thee so we spent 3 days. It was rough in some areas and nice in other areas just like most big cities. We walked the markets during day and plenty of live shows. You can watch 20 different shows during the day and spend the cost of tipping each one or not. There was a beautiful Park we took cab too and walked around for hours. Just hard to get a cab back. We did go out 2 nights without the kids and was fun. Love the fact you can make your drink in hotel room and walk bourbon street and go in every club and not spend a dime. We stayed at Ritz righ off Bourbon st, so was really convenient to refill our drinks. I recommend going once.
