NEW YORK -- The NBA announced Wednesday that the 2015 All-Star Weekend will be in New York, co-hosted by the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets.

The Knicks will host the All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015 at the newly renovated Madison Square Garden. The Nets will host the Saturday night events, including the 3-point shootout and dunk contest, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the league announced at a press conference Wednesday.

"New York offers an extraordinary opportunity to host NBA All-Star events at two world-class venues," NBA Commissioner David Stern said. "We look forward to celebrating our game with basketball fans across the entire city, in all five boroughs."

All-Star Weekend has been co-hosted in the past. In 2010, the American Airlines Center in Dallas hosted All-Star Saturday while the game was played the next night at the Dallas Cowboys' stadium.

The 2014 All-Star Game is scheduled for New Orleans next February. Since 2004, the All-Star Game has been played in Western Conference cities in all years but 2012, when it was in Orlando. It hasn't been held in a cold-weather city since 2005, when it was in Denver.

The Knicks and Nets have had a budding rivalry since the Nets moved to Brooklyn last season. Players on the Knicks and Nets have traded barbs in the media in recent months over which team is the best in New York.

During Wednesday's press conference, which was attended by Knicks owner James Dolan and members of the Nets' hierarchy, a common theme was putting the teams' differences aside to host the All Star Weekend.

Dolan said the Knicks and Nets need to "give our rivalry a rest for a little bit" to co-host the All Star festivities.
