So my dad calls me today to tell me he chipped in from the fairway on a par 4 to make eagle today. My father also had a hole-in-one about 8 years back. He claims this was more satisfying and we got to conversing about it, and he swears up and down that an eagle on a par 4 is RARER than a hole in one.

This is an absurd claim. First off there are far more par 4s on the course so more opportunities to do it. Then you have par 4's that are reachable by big hitters. EVEN WITH THOSE TWO THINGS ASIDE I think he's wrong.

He bet me $100 that eagles on par 4s are rarer than hole in ones on par 3s (we also had another argument about whether a hole in one on a par 3 is actually an eagle, an argument I won).

I can't find the stats anywhere can someone help me substantiate this claim? I'm not gonna take the old man's money it's just about pride now.

Hole in one for sure to me. I've eagled shorter par 4's before by chipping in or driving the green.......a double eagle is really rare......let the old man have his glory, jk

Two months ago I almost had a hole in 1 on a par 4....passed the cup by less than a foot (the group that just finished told me)

now THAT would have been some rare shit.....

There were 447 eagles on tour last year on par 4's... I don't even think there was an average of 1 hole in one per week.

Yes I agree it was so ludicrous I couldn't even believe he was arguing the other side and he was serious.

And FWIW I'm not trying to diminish his accomplishment, I'm trying to save him from being a victim of the moment and diminishing his actual hole-in-one.

They gave him a plaque for his hole in one that's still on his office wall. I asked him if they gave him a plaque today for his eagle, not to be a dick but just to make my point. It still didn't register.

The problem is I can't find the stats to prove it. Oh well...

can't imagine it wouldn't be a hole in one... a few years back I hit my 8 iron 2nd shot into the cup for an eagle..pretty damn good feeling but not anywhere close to the feeling a hole in one would be

Funny thing about his hole-in-one...he's not a big hitter at ALL. It was a cold winter day (December in Illinois I believe) with the wind in his face; hole was about 160 yards. He hits a 3-iron...totally blades it and it ran up the fairway onto the green and disappeared into the hole.

The plaque says 3 iron but he took a sharpie and changed it to say 8-iron. Not even joking. LOL

Its ridiculous to say an eagle on a par 4 is more rare.
I can get less then 80 yards from the pin on every single par 4 on the drive at my local course.
On 2 of them I can almost drive the green.

I have had over 10 eagles on par 4's and never had a hole in one.

Now a double eagle on a par 5 is far more rare and hard to pull off then a hole in one.

Yeah you guys don't have to argue that an ace is rarer, you are preaching to the choir. I KNOW THIS.

I literally just can't find anything to prove it.

And yes obviously a double eagle is the rarest of them all.

There's your proof.

"Here's my proof dad. There were 447 eagles on tour last year on par 4s. How many hole in ones? Well some guy on the RX named terps1313 says he doesn't think there was even one a week."

Yeah was looking for something a little more concrete than that.
