Had my 5-year-old in Atlanta for the Thu/Fri games last week. We got to the park in time for BP on Friday.
To all you eBay asshats out there, go shove your photo-filled binders up your cornholes. Dozens of autograph vultures (no kids, just sharpies) crowded around the dugout. So little nitty and myself walk down to the right field area where pitchers were warming up and shagging BP balls.
Scott Downs comes over, talks to us, and plays catch with my kid for a few minutes. You can see the ball that my boy tried to fire over his head. Didn't work - he made the play. When he was done, autographed the ball for us. Asked if any more kids at home, and when I told him there was a brother who didn't make the trip, he called Jordan Schafer over who tossed us another ball.
Just a really kind, humble, down to earth guy. Wish more ballplayers were like that.
