Ok, so here the deal. I have 4 dogs. I have 2 Blue heelers, Australian Shepherd, and a German Shepherd. We live in a nice gated community. I keep the 2 heelers in the backyard and the other two dogs stay in the side yard all surrounded by 8 foot fence. Anyway, my neighbors to the left are Nigerian and are terrified of dogs. I've had to be sure to keep them on a leash when I take them for a walk which is understandable. They Nigerians have contacted animal control over 10 times about my dogs barking or sticking their head under the fence and barking. Animal control came out a couple months ago and asked me to add boards to where they dogs couldn't stick their head under the fence. She was really nice and I understood. Add boards, no big deal. I got the problem fixed and all was good. Well, Monday I had a knock on the door and it was SPCA. The guy said they had a complaint that I had been keeping my German Shepard in a crate and not feeding him. This is totally ridiculous as I would never neglect my dogs or any dog for that matter. The crates they were referring to are actually dog houses I had just bought the dogs. Anyway, the guy asked if he could see the German Shepard. No problem. I brought the guy through the house and we went to the side yard gate where the Shepard is. I was a little apprehensive opening the gate because the Shepard is very protective. I said to myself if this guy wants to see my dog then I'll show him my dog. So, I opened the gate and the Shepherd immediately bit the SPCA dude twice. I closed the gate and helped the dude. He was bit once on the arm and once kinda under the armpit area. He asked me to call someone and so I asked who. He ended up calling his boss which called the ambulance. Within 10 minutes we had the ambulance, 3 cops, SPCA dude and his boss and Animal control. The bites weren't bad and not even bleeding. Cop asked what happened and they understood the Shepard was just protecting his territory. But, they had to quarantine the Shepard for 10 days. What the fuck? My neighbor makes a false claim and SPCA shows up. He wants to my dog and I show him. He gets bit protecting his yard and he goes to shelter for 10 days? Doesn't seem right. My dogs are heathy and well cared for I can assure you. The neighbors are just assholes cuz they don't like dogs. Is there anything I can do?

Man that sucks that your dog has to be quarrantined but i doubt theres anything you can do about it unless maybe you can show proof of up to date rabies vaccinations , but i dont know if that will even work. ... but look on the bright side , your dog biting the spca officer could have turned out much worse than a 10 day quarrantine.

The only advise i could give is try extending the olive branch to the neighbors and assure them that they are safe and the dog wont attack them. ... of course its hard to be nice to people who tell lies on you and call the police.

Ty is lright. As much as it pains u... I would try to do something nice for them and ask they call u with any problems... this is the ackward thing though. As they dont feel comfortable talking to u. U gota fix that somehow..
Also... when it comes to barking they make very effective bark collars (they shock) and even better they make a high pitch bark alarm.. this is my preferance.. when it detects 2 or 3 barks.. a high pitch alarm sounds. Very humane.. and effective

Send your Nigerian emails telling them how you are a prince/dead uncle/bank president/widow from another country, and that you have millions of dollars for them to claim. When they try to claim the money, tell them you need them to wire you money for taxes/attorneys fee's/lawyers fee's/paperwork, etc.

After you have milked them for every penny they had, they wont be able to pay their rent or mortgage. Thus causing them to move out. Hopefully your next neighbors are more animal friendly.

On a side note... did you warn the SPCA guy beforehand that your dog might be a little protective before opening the gate?

We have gone above and beyond with the neighbors extending the olive branch. We've had them over for dinner when we first moved in and as of late have tried to make them feel secure. It's not getting us anywhere. I feel I may need to hire a local attorney to write a letter to let them know this is bordering on harassment at this point calling all these services. They are abusing these services making false accusations and now someone has been injured because of their false claims.

NFLTrends I didn't warn about the dog as I guess I was just hoping it would be ok. Looking back I should have put him on a leash and let the guy see from a distance that there wasn't anything wrong. The dogs are just being dogs. They are in their yard behind a 8 foot fence. They bark at lawn mowers and they bark at loud motorcycles or coyotes that are nearby. They are dogs. Dogs bark. And that makes the neighbors upset. I don't really want to put a shock collar on them cuz they aren't doing anything wrong IMO. It's not excessive. If it were I would look at that option, but it's not.

I think your biggest worry is with guy that got bit.He or the SPCA might try and sue you for medical costs and such.....Not much you can do about your pup being Quarantined for 10 days, sounds like standard procedure....As far as the neighbors go,try to keep a line of communication going with them.It sucks to be feuding with next door neighbors,It will only lead to more B.S....Good Luck to you and your pups.

Nah, the SPCA dude was just bellyaching. He was on the phone with his boss and you would think he had been shot if you heard him. Dude was a puss. He just wanted to get some kind of leave for a few days I'm sure. Cops and animal control agreed the dog was just protecting his territory. That's the SPCA dudes job! He should have taken proper precautions to make sure everything went safely. Nothing will come from that I can assure you. Evidently, proper protocol was for SPCA to call animal control first so they could do their own investigation. He must have been new or just a complete dumbass. Just an unfortunate situation for my dog who was just acting instinctively. Now he's in dog jail.

look into the standards required for them to take your dogs in your city/county. I have an asshole neighbor as well, but unless another neighbor complains or animal control comes by why the dogs is barking uncontrollably or is unrestrained/loose (neither occur), they cant even get a hearing about taking either of my dogs. Just letters and a possible visits. The animal control officers that have come by have all been cool....they met the dog in question (he is well trained and I put him in a down stay), saw my yard and told me it sounded like I had an asshole neighbor and went on their way. I've continued to get letters saying 15 days to "cure" etc. but again, unless someone else complains you are usually cool. None of my other neighbors have any issues with my dogs so I'm fine. I just blast Too Short in my backyard every time this old dude has company over now....took the high road :)
