KNICKS 115, BUCKS 94
Mike Woodson continues to be defiant when asked about a Knicks future that isn’t likely to include him.
Phil Jackson is slated to be introduced Tuesday as the team’s new president of basketball operations, and the Zen Master is widely expected to bring in a head coach of his choosing regardless of how Woodson’s team finishes this season.
Still, the Knicks continue to roll for the first time all year – at least against teams worse off than them – drubbing dead-last Milwaukee, 115-92, for their season-high sixth straight win, all by double-digits, Saturday at the Garden.

[h=4]Andrew Theodorakis/New York Daily News[/h][h=4]J.R. Smith adds 15 points as the Knicks stay in the hunt for the No. 8 spot in the playoffs.[/h]
“When someone new comes in, he has his own thought process and philosophy in terms of how he feels and how the shape of the team should be,” Woodson said before the game of Jackson’s pending arrival.
“Until he gets here, you just have no idea what he’s thinking and which direction he wants to go.”

Asked if he believes he needs to prove himself to the team’s new decision maker, Woodson replied: “I don’t think I need to prove anything as a coach. I’ve never felt that way. I try to do my job the best I can do, and if you’re gonna judge me on 16 games, then that’s on you. I’ve tried to do the best I can do, in terms of my everyday approach to the game.

[h=4]Andrew Theodorakis/New York Daily News[/h][h=4]Raymond Felton and the Knicks continue to take advantage of the NBA's worst teams.[/h]
“We’ve had our ups and downs this year and I take full responsibility for that. But at the end of the day, we still have 16 (now 15) games left, we got a legitimate shot to make the playoffs and that’s where I’m pushing this team.”
Carmelo Anthony scored 23 points in three quarters and Tim Hardaway Jr. netted 20 to pull the Knicks (27-40) back within three games of No. 8 Atlanta in the East pending the Hawks’ home game Saturday night against Denver.
Amar’e Stoudemire added 15 points after missing Wednesday’s win in Boston for “recovery” purposes, while Tyson Chandler also was back in the lineup after skipping the previous two games because of a family illness.
Woodson, who had his contract option for next season picked up at the start of training camp, had said earlier in the week that he hopes for a one-on-one meeting with Jackson to discuss his future. He continues to be outwardly complimentary of the Hall of Famer, who won 11 NBA titles as coach of the Bulls and Lakers and two as a player with the Knicks in the 1970s.

“Anytime you can get a great basketball mind that comes into your organization, I mean, it can’t do nothing but help,” Woodson said.

“Phil’s been through the wringer. He’s won titles. He’s dealt with players individually. He’s dealt with players as a team. I mean, there’s probably not a lot he hasn’t seen from a basketball standpoint, so I think it’s got to be a plus.
“It’s basketball. Teams, they try to reshape, they go through changes, and this is no different. You bring in a great basketball mind into your organization and eventually it’ll be reshaped. So how and who and when, only time will tell.”

Woodson added that he’s had little direct interaction with Jackson through the years, aside from coaching against each other and a brief discussion when Jackson returned to the Garden last year for the 40th anniversary of the Knicks’ 1973 championship team.
“I had an opportunity, which I thought was a big thrill, just being an old coach, sitting there and listening to all the war stories,” Woodson said. “Yeah, we spoke a little bit at that dinner. And (Jackson) praised our ball club at that time, told us how much he admired how we were playing and ‘keep it up.’ That was basically his message.”
One year ago, Woodson’ team finished 54-28 during the regular season before advancing to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2000.
Even with this current winning streak -- fashioned against teams that entered Saturday with a combined 130-262 record -- the Knicks are still
13 games shy of the .500 mark. Nine of their final 15 games will be against teams currently in playoff positions, beginning Wednesday at home against East-leading Indiana.
