Says Bruce Campbell....

I know, I know. This isn’t a “TV story.” But it’s freakin’ ARMY OF DARKNESS! And there’s no way a guy who named his son Ash (um, me) isn’t going to report on Bruce Campbell telling the crowd at Wizard World Nashville Comic Con that a sequel to 1992′s Army of Darkness was in in the works!
With Campbell’s long gig on USA’s Burn Notice finally over, it looks like he’s turned his attention back to the franchise that put him on the map. “The last one was twenty-two years ago,” Campbell told the crowd. “I just haven’t been racing to do it. Sam Raimi is just a little bit busy making the biggest movies in Hollywood. I used to be busy. Now I’m not. That’s why I’m here.”
“Ash would have to stop occasionally from chasing some deadite to catch his breath,” Campbell joked about the sequel noting his own age. “Maybe we could do that, I guess. That would be exciting. Fight in a walker. That would be alright. Hit them with my cane. Fake them out, have a fake heart attack, distract a zombie. I like it.”
In the end though, after the jokes, Campbell did confirm the sequel. “Alright sir, the answer is yes.”
This comes on the heels of Fede Alvarez (director of the new 2013 Evil Dead) telling Bloody Disgusting that Sam Raimi was “determined” to get Army of Darkness 2 off the ground. Even implying that he was making it more of a priority than the next Evil Dead installment.
It does make you wonder what the actual sequence of these movies is supposed to be, given that Ash (who himself is an easter egg in the new Evil Dead film) is supposed to somehow eventually become a part of the new Evil Dead-verse, connecting the two franchises. Which would make the original Army of Darkness a part of the new Evil Dead canon as well. So that would mean that Army of Darkness 2 would also somehow be connected to the 2013 Evil Dead.
Given that, would Army of Darkness 2 change its tone a bit? Be less comedic?
