A few hours before Clemson hosted Florida State Saturday night, a curious internet rumor arose claiming that Tigers quarterback Tajh Boyd had amassed over $80,000 in gambling debts by betting on NFL games. While the rumor didn't come from the most reputable site, the allegations were brought up at Clemson’s Tuesday media conference, and both Boyd and Clemson coach Dabo Swinney quickly shot down the rumors.

“I don’t know where that came from,” Boyd said. “Honestly, I don’t really watch NFL games. I only get two games. It was kind of shocking.”

Boyd said that he learned of the story on Sunday morning

Swinney chuckled and said that the story “added to his beautiful Sunday.”

“I have no knowledge of that, nor do I think there’s any credibility to that. I spoke to Tajh about it and he just shook his head. I have no reason not to believe Tajh Boyd,” Swinney said.

Swinney also questioned the credibility of the website that generated the report.

“I’m sure that was a pretty credible website you pulled that from,” Swinney said to a reporter. “That’s the world we live in unfortunately. Anybody can pretty much say what they want.”

At this point, there's no reason to believe that there is any truth to these rumors. Frankly, I'm somewhat surprised that Boyd and Swinney even had to answer questions about something that is so far-fetched.

first,i don't know why this is relevant to his game against florida st,second, where is he going to get 80,000 to pay and what bookie would let a 23 yr old kid being a star college QB let it ever go this far.i don't believe it and its just something else to lay on this kid with his poor preformance against florida st

Its relevant because they are insinuating Boyd thru the game to help out his debt situation. And yes a bookie will let a future NFL player gamble knowing full well he is in for a pay day at some point.

But I figure the story to be BS as well.

Why wouldn't a bookie let this kid get that far in debt....Once your into a bookie this deep your in his back pocket....Next thing their leaning on the kid to pay up and knowing he cant they say ''Maybe we can work something out"...Boyd has a bad day,Clemson wins but no cover....All debts are paid.
