I have this problem that most men seem to get whether it's a lack of dieting, genetics, laziness or all of the above.

The tire, the doughnut, the pouch, aka the bloated tummy.

I'll be fist to admit, I don't exercise, I don't really monitor the portions I eat, I come close to being lazy and I spend a lot of time watching games or on the net surfing.

I've had the pouch for several years now and well when you look in the mirror straight on it may not look that bad, but a side shot in the mirror and you ask yourself how far along are you and when's the expectancy date?

I figure there are a lot of guys here in my position and want to know the best exercises to start with to help cut down on this bloat. Does riding an exercise bike help and if so what's the amount of time you should put it into it when you are working out.

I don't drink so beer hasn't contributed to this at all. I used to be super thin and did a lot of running but as I got older I stopped and basically have gained more weight than I wish to have. I am at 202 pounds and around 5'10 to 5'11 in height. So I know I am at least 30 pounds over weight. The stomach and breast area is where it is all located.

I hate vegetables, I am more of a steak/potato, Italian pasta type eater. I have noticed lately that after eating and not heavy eating, I get tired and often conk out cold. I would think this isn't good either.

Suggestions and Help Appreciated in advance, I am in hopes this helps more than myself here.

You sound just like me except I'm 6'2, 240. You're kidding about advice right? Diet and exercise are the answer. Or if you're like me you could just say fuck it.

i dont like veggies either, but can drink spinach and kale juice no problem with some apples, carrots, lime, pineapple, etc in there

body wasnt meant to be able to handle all that processed food out there today

you'll feel a lot less tired if you give this a try for a bit

i still eat ribs, steak, etc. but try to drink a big ass thing of fruit/veggie juice every day and have noticed a difference in a lot of areas in 10 months or so of doing this

Diet/nutrition and exercise are the answers you need.

Diet I'd say is 75% while exercise is 25%. It's a life change brother and it starts with you.

The simple formula is to exert or burn more calories than you take in during any given day. You are right, it's about portion control and portion size. Americans, by and large, are fat because they simply eat too much food. They eat because their bored or socializing not because they need substance.

Start today man. Read some books on nutrition and start burning some calories. You'll feel so much better and look better too.

I am the same way as you. I hate vegetables, and drank to much soda. I started walking ( mostly because I got a high energy dog) and started planning on what I was going to eat for dinner, Instead of deciding at 7 PM that night, and running down for pizza or fast food. I cut out butter, cheese, fast food and soda. 8 weeks later I had dropped 20 pounds. Just start walking, watch your portions, and try and eat dinner earlier.

How far and how long should you do on average, I have no issues with walking at all. This one is easy to do.

You sound just like me except I'm 6'2, 240. You're kidding about advice right? Diet and exercise are the answer. Or if you're like me you could just say fuck it.

No not kidding, I know the answer is diet and exercise, I just need to be put in the right direction about the exercise part of things. When searching online, most of the pages end up being an ad wanting you to buy some miracle pill and have testimonials which I am smart enough to know is BS, if there was this miracle pill, it would be at Walgreens or Rite Aid and always sold out. So I know that crap is nothing but a fraud.

Appreciate the encouragement, it's hard to do it on your own and always good to get some push via tips, advice and know that you aren't alone in this.

What I really would like is to get some basic exercises that I can do without buying gym equipment or joining a gym. I already have the stereo to jam the tunes to keep me going, I want to know what I should start with, how many and how long. I know this won't go away overnight, it didn't get that way overnight either. So I must put in the time and effort, this I am ready to do and appreciate some guidance. As I said there are more like me out there, heck Dave007 already came forth.

Thanks guys.

What about eggs? Eating eggs for breakfast every day was a great habit. All protein, little calories... It's a great habit...

And youll be amazedddd how fast it comes off with just very slight diet changes and some excercise...

What I found that works best is during Monday night Football, Sunday Night Football, Thursdaay Night football, put some action on the game, and get on the treadmill or elliptical and run... Because of the adrenaline from the wager, I barely notice it...

Gambling helped me lose weight. Seriously.

Lost about 35 lbs in 2.5 months.

It seems like such a challenge but it's not.

I know there is no way in heck that I am ever going to drink those kind of drinks. I can see barf city right away. I don't eat out much but do eat a lot of Tyson nugget/chicken strips type products and have gotten away from eating grilled chicken, steak, pork chops to eating more of that "processed or Stouffers lasagna type meals. I will eat corn, lettuce and lima beans, but as for the rest of veggies, green beans, spinach, cauliflower... forget it, I'll never go there. I know I am bad on the greens but as a kid I was forced to eat that stuff and I mean forced, so when I got older, no way.

I am the same way as you. I hate vegetables, and drank to much soda. I am an avid Coca Cola drinker, I can easily do 3 a day without thinking about it. I have started to cut back and gone to 1 to 2 a day, some days I don't drink any. I've been drinking more of those Arizona drinks, Grape, Watermelon, Orange but even still those things are 23 ozs and like doing 2 cans of coke a day without the caffeine. Supposedly they are 100% natural.

I don't do a lot of fast food so that's easy, I don't eat a lot of cheese unless it's on pizza or sprinkled on spaghetti. Not a big fan of butter either, unless it's on bread. So a lot of what you have said I can do. Thank You!

I don't eat much eggs if ever, Scrambled would be what I would eat. I did get a chuckle because the first thing I saw in your post was that gambling helped you lose weight. I thought, yep his wallet got lighter and he lost some of that pocket weight! LMAO. Seriously though, good idea.

On a side note, I know this will sound a little funny, but I have one of these and I am going to find what I can do with it to help as well. Anyone else have one of these.

i was in that situation a little over a year ago. I asked friends on fb for a diet tips and was told myfitnesspal.com Pretty cool b/c you set your goals, and you log in all of your daily calorie intake. You dont realize the useless shit u eat when eating chips and or just junk. I have 2 small kids so their is always crap around my house.

I work a desk job so hard to excercise. What I did was once i put the kids to bed, i would run in place for 30 min (wii fit) while watching a game. Food wise- its all about portion control. I measure my breakfast every morning. I brown bag it to work 2-3x a week. Dinner, i'll eat a big salad and put tuna fish in it 2x a week plus my wife started to cook more so eating healthy. Going out to eat isnt as fun but its good little cheats.

I was also drinking 5 diet cokes a day and went cold turkey. I think i've had a total of 8 oz of diet soda in the past year. My stomach feels 100000x better for cutting it out!! Water is boring but thats pretty much all i drink and i drink alot.

I dropped 35 lbs in 3 months (started at 227) and hit 50 lbs within 8 months. I've been slacking a bit lately and put on 5 lbs back but i still to this day measure my breakfast and eat healthy lunches.

Instead of soda, i'll drink 1-2 cups of coffee a day and i chew a piece of gum in the morning and 1 piece after lunch just to have something in my mouth. This stuff works, just takes discipline.

Judging by your height and weight, you really dont have much to lose. My biggest joke is that i grew 2 inches "down there" b/c my stomach shrank 2 inches.

Good luck!!

Processed foods are most likely making you feel tired. It is tough to go completely processed food free, but once your body adjusts to the change you will feel great. The first few weeks will be rough as your body will actually go through withdrawal - shows just how nasty the processed stuff is. Grilled chicken, steak, lamb chops, sweet potatoes.. all good stuff. Don't like veggies, that's cool but you should at least try to learn to like salads - put chicken salad or shrimp salad on top. Cutting down on processed foods will make a huge difference in energy and weight control.

+1. For sure most of your problem. The thing you need to cut out is those Tyson products, easy to make but made of crap. Coke is horrible and so is Arizona products. Sugar is bad for you but High Fructose Corn Syrup is poison. And just about everything you named is full of it. I drink the Peace Tea products, no HFCS and .88 a 23oz can at Walmart. Cut out the processed junk and Corn Syrup for a week and ill wager you'll feel better and have more energy which will lead to losing weight.

Thanks fellows. I went and found an app that counts your steps and went out and walked for approx. 25 minutes. It stated I did 1557 steps. Not sure if accurate or not, really doesn't matter I guess.

I have been drinking a lot more water lately and found I was going to the head more often as a result. I guess that's a good thing. The one area and I am not trying to be gross is I have very inconsistent bowel movements. I can literally be full of shit and need to get that function going on a more regular basis.

My game plan is to continue to drink the water as I have, not sure how much I should be drinking but I do at least 4 of the 16.9 ounce bottles at a bare minimum daily.
Walk everyday for at least 30 minutes.
Ride the stationary bike 15 minutes
Run in place for 5-10 minutes
Use the red exerciser, I found a few vids on youtube to get me started.

I appreciate all the feedback and I know this will help more than myself, so if anymore ideas, please post them. I'll give an update on how things are progressing.

I might be doing a lot more exercising if I watch this video, that might not be a bad thing. The first video is rather funny at what they deem to be exercising and I like the beach babe better, who knows what's after that until I get that far!

You have to figure out a way to make doing the right thing fun and convenient.

I built a very comfortable workout room in my house.
Got a real sturdy and well built 5.0 horsepower treadmill with a wall mounted 60" TV at eye level to me running.

I just wait for something real interesting on TV to come on.
If nothing interest me I will bet on game I have no opinion on just to have something fun to watch while im running on the treadmill.

Sometimes I will get so involved in what im watching that im not even thinking about running the treadmill.
THere have been many times when I would start running at the beginning of a football game and before you know it the 3rd quarter is starting and im still running.

Of course the most basic exercises for you at home are running, push ups or planks/situps etc.

But, that said, join a gym man. Find one with a great environment with some positive people. You will be motivated.

I run on one at the gym but I'm also going to buy myself one for Christmas and put it in my "sweat room" and mount a TV as well. I hate competing for a treadmill at the gym.
