I was thinking the same.

but I always find that they Don't have what I want on Black Friday

I screwed up a few weeks ago when I wanted this one http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/pcs/NP900X3E-A02US

Microsoft shop had it for $999 when everyone still had it at $1399

that Samsung Book 9 is an excellent model and you'll still be able to get it for around $1K in the near future since it uses the now 'old' Ivy Bridge processor.

apparently, Intel and PC OEM's are still sitting on large inventories of Ivy Bridge machines.. that's why they've been slow to roll-out the new Haswells.

but if you're ok with the prior generation Intel processor, just keep your eyes open because there will be plenty of close-outs on quality machines like the ATIV 9. the ASUS UX31A is another good one to consider.

if you want a QHD+ display like the Samsung 9 Plus, but with better specs and much cheaper, get the new Yoga 2 Pro for $1,200 at Best Buy. they're selling like hotcakes there..

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-...lver/1817254.p?id=1219065404810&skuId=1817254

i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD. those same specs will run you close to $2K on that new Samsung 9 Plus.

Thanks... I was going to start looking into Lenovo since I'm on their mailing list...
They are known for their Laptops... or I should say Thinkpads ... so maybe it might be a good choice.

Better price than their own site... but usually that's because companies make special laptops just for the Stores.

If this one is in Bestbuy, I probably will go check it out....

Thanks

I've been waiting for the Haswells ................. pissing me off that they have held this out.. They said it would be released in the later part of 2013... Target of Sept/Oct... But what you said makes sense. must be stuck with inventory ..

the Yoga 2 Pro will be a huge winner for Lenovo because they've loaded it with specs at a 'value' price. not such a premium look, but it does have the unique form factor w/tablet.

there's actually a separate ThinkPad Yoga model too. it doesn't have the QHD+ screen, but has a better keyboard and other business-oriented features.

i'm actually a longtime ThinkPad owner, so looking for a change.. most likely to Samsung or Asus.

personally, i think the QHD+ is complete overkill on a 13" screen and it presents its own set of scaling issues. it's really just a marketing ploy to jack up prices.

i've been in the market for a few months too and my ideal machine would be that Samsung 9 Ivy Bridge you linked, but updated with Haswell. it has the best matte 1080p screen on the market with the best 2.6 lb form factor. such a slick machine. the new 9 Plus added a half pound and larger dimensions all for that gaudy glossy screen.

Asus has the new UX301LA model which is also very slick, but it's around $2K for top specs like the Samsung.

yeah, it literally just came out and they're selling through them fast. apparently, they're getting new weekly shipments according to the discussion here..

some people are saying their local BB's actually had them in stock when they went and asked, despite the website saying they were out..

i've been to different BB's over the past week and each had it on display. not sure about their stock levels in the back though. it was good to at least check it out though in person.. GL

Agree wit the above.... I myself shouldn't be worried about QHD+ screen. I care more about small, easy to travel with... that gives me Much more than a tablet ...

I'm not an Apple fan at all... but Got a Ipad .... was a Gift. It just doesn't do it for me.

What I like about Samsung besides the Picture... is they make most of their own Parts.

I really would like that Haswell .... But I guess I will have to pay ... or wait longer.

Thanks for the Site... I think I stopped by there once a couple of years ago.

Yeah, Thanks.

Funny thing is the last time I was at BestBuy ... I asked the Samsung Rep about some models he had out. This was a Month or so ago... and he was telling about the Change over on their Books. Going from what they call Series, and now being called ATIV
He says I have the new ones in the Back, but can't put them out... He's like I can show it to you, but Can't Sell it to you. LOL

Well I'm going to try to check out that Lenovo.

Thanks again

yeah, my needs are the same as yours. my priorities are weight/form factor, keyboard & trackpad quality, and 1080p display. that's why that Samsung 9 is such a great machine because they nailed all of those elements.

i'm also not a huge fan of touch on a laptop. i've been using a Windows 8 touch laptop for the last 3 months as a loaner and i rarely ever touch the screen. i wouldn't mind the touch element so much, but it adds two problems: weight and gloss.

while i've grown a bit tired of all my prior ThinkPads and have really wanted an aesthetic change to a Samsung or Asus, i may consider the ThinkPad X1 Carbon replacement for Haswell.. they're calling it the X3. not sure if you're familiar with the X1 Carbon series, but it's a 14" screen (perfect size imo) but in a 13" form factor (2.7 lbs).

no release date or pricing info yet, but here are the specs and build options (with a matte FHD screen option!)..
