Boston Bakes the pot of Beans for the last time -115 (vs St Louis Birds migrate south for the winter)
Wacha is still a raw rookie. He's only started 5 away games in his whole career (all this season). He gave up at least 2 earned runs in three of them. The Sox waited him out for a season tying 4 walks in his start against them. This is a Big Stage tonight, as big as it gets for a Baseball player. Lackey has been here before, many years ago with the Angels. I think he (Lackey) is due for a stellar start at home in this year's Playoffs. He's thrown two mediocre games in Fenway thusfar, the place where he did his best pitching this year.
The Cardinals also have young, live, but inexperienced arms in their bullpen. Their closer, Rosenthal, has been lights out in the Playoffs but he can be had. Since July 4th he's had 7 appearances where he's given up earned runs (13 total in that timeframe). Uehara, has also been lights out in the Playoffs but that is an extension of his incredible season's work. Get this. Since july 4th (48 appearances) he has given up 2 earned runs and has only walked ONE guy.
As for bats, neither team is hitting particularly well but it is more likely that Boston will break out if anyone does. 53-28 at home. Of course Big Papi is in a zone. The same zone he's been in for his years with the Red Sox. When crunch time comes, in a game, or in a season, Papi crunches.
Good luck guys.
PS note to Matheny (please pitch to Papi)
