Reddit catches an online serial dater who wants to dine at all of Toronto's top restaurants...
It's no secret plenty of online daters aren't looking for love. Some are just looking to hook up. Some are looking to cheat. Some are looking to spy on people they've dated. And some just want free meals at expensive restaurants — 48 to be exact.
That's where Erin, a 23-year-old self-proclaimed "gold digger" struggling actress from Toronto, comes in. She's on a mission to eat at every nice restaurant in Toronto and she doesn't want to pay a cent — that's what her online dates are for.
In her blog, "A Penniless Girl, Bad Dates, and Plenty of Oysters," the serial-dating foodie, who joined everything from Christian Mingle to J-Date* in search of dates, documents her journey to fulfill her restaurant wish list.
"I consider myself more of a be sat & be served type of gal, as opposed to the whole stand up & serve someone else [...]," she explains in one blog post.
And what will she do to be served her dream meals? Well, there's pretending to be Jewish for one, targeting foreigners, who are less likely to catch onto her, and going on dates with "2s and 3s" — which may be the reverse strategy of men who aspire make more money so they can date 9s and 10s.
Aside from her dates, there are plenty of others who are not pleased with her dining and dashing agenda. The Reddit community, for one, is livid, comparing her to Tucker Max, calling her a prostitute, and conspiring ways to trick her.
One guy, who knew her "secret" attempted to leave her with the bill at the end of the date. Instead, they both ended up liking each other, leading to a split bill and lots of whiskey.
But, is her no-so-secret scam really that much worse than the other lies being told online? Is it any better than pick-up artists who pay a professional writers to design profiles lure you get you into the bedroom? There's lots of deception in the world of online dating, but now that her's is even more out in the open, will she stop eating her way through Toronto date-by-date?
From her recent blog post, it doesn't sound like it's ending anytime soon.
"Reality check? Toronto gold diggers exist. Be afraid, be very afraid."
*Her J-Date account has been suspended, but Business Insider reports Erin is still on Tindr, OK Cupid and Christian Mingle.
