A couple of conditions

automatic transmission, must have AC ( I think that is standard ?)

4 door sedan or a pickup truck preferably with an xtra cab.

something like a Honda Fit/ civic or comparable model from Toyota/ Nissan etc. A truck with a shell would work.

It seems like about 19k or so to start with for something like a Fit, but I think I could work that down.

I want high MPG and a 4 cyl truck doesn't seem to get much better than about 27 mpg....I'd be thinking more along the lines of a Civic Hybrid or Maxda CX-5. It would be nice to keep it under 20k, but 25k is more realistic....unless I go used.

So help me starting at the bottom end of new cars that must have an auto tranny and A/C and 4 doors and a 2 door truck is acceptable if automatic and AC equipped if cheap enough.

The automobile should be Japanese branded like a Honda/ Toyota/ Nissan.....or at least a Hyundai/ Kia

No American crap like Ford/ Dodge/ Chevy....especially not a FORD !

Honda is the preferred manufacturer, Toyota is 2nd choice. then I guess Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Dodge, Chevy. suzuki, Ford

just looking fo a $6,000 new Honda/ Toyota car/ truck for the wife...it's not going well so far for some reason....might have to go for a 650cc motorcycle and spring for a helmet to meet the budget ?

Somehow I can't find a new car for 6k ????

Base Model Honda Civic with added Auto Trans is hard to beat for the money. The engine is the best in the biz, resale value is too, and the styling and high tech features are way above its price range. Best car hands down in the $20k and under price range (you can get one to suit you for right at $17k i would think). If you bump it to $25k and under, the CX-5 is gonna be hard to beat.

If you do happen to find that $6k new car, buy 2 please, and I'll come get one from you...
