With the NFL trying to implement all these new rules on player safety how about repealing the horse collar tackle? If TO isn't hurt by this play is this even a rule? How many players have been injured in the NFL since this rule was implemented?

Just sick of players getting a 15 yard penalty and seeing the ball carrier jump right up and yell at the refs to throw a flag for the penalty. I bet the rate of injuries for the horse collar is not significantly higher than your average tackle in the NFL.

Since the rule was implemented can you think of any significant injuries caused by this tackle in the NFL? Teams get penalized and players get fined but who is getting injured? What is a defender supposed to do when chasing someone down from behind? Take out their knees from behind?

in the last 5 years who has torn up their knee from a horse collar tackle in the NFL? How many players have torn up their knee from a regular tackle? I doubt there is much of a statistical difference. No rule was in place for 40+ years until TO gets hurt then all of a sudden it is a dangerous tackle.

Most dangerous in football??? How many people have been paralyzed or concussed by the horse collar tackle? In the last 5 years how many NFL players were injured by the horse collar tackle? People keep saying it is dangerous but every time I see it the ball carrier jumps up. The most serious injuries in the NFL in the past 5 years have not been a result of the horse collar tackle if there have even been any at all. Typical NFL owner overreaction to TO getting hurt.

how about guys learn to tackle properly, instead of just trying to knock people over by hitting them as hard as possible.

Horse collar rule is a good rule

The original intent was to away the way Roy Williams was using the horse collar tackle where he launched himself into the back of the receiver's legs.

A little tug should be allowed, especially around the line of scrimmage
