Can a company one works for as a W2 employee request that one take a week off because the company wants to reevaluate the employee, not say if it's paid or unpaid leave, ask to employee to return to work and not pay the employee for the week? Does this sound odd to anyone? Note the employee was still employed and on payroll. :think2: Salaried employee not hourly.

If they are salary, it sounds like the employee got a week's worth of paid vacation.

So tell a salaried employee to take a week off, not tell them if it is paid or unpaid and after the fact tell them it's unpaid. Not one person would agree to this. Not one

The employer can absolutely tell you to stay home without pay the most you can do is ry to claim unemployment for that week

I read the story i cant see where anybody ever asked....shouldnt that have been the 1st question they asked before they left for the week?? If they didnt tell you they would pay it or there is no signed contract saying they have to pay it ...they dont.

No law broken. This happens all the time. You can apply for unemployment that week though. Go back to work and be thankful you have a job...
