I'm having shoulder surgery on Thursday (cards and flowers can be sent to....) but I had to have a general physical yesterday.

So he did the usual checks and went to my ears and said "you have some wax down in there." I responded with yeah I need to do a better job with my Q-tips. He shook his head and told me the exact opposite and that I should never use Q-tips because all they do is push the wax further down in the ear canal. He said even though you get some wax out, you are pushing more down in there that anything.

I quized him a little as I was interested and told me ears naturally clean themselves out but if I ever get build up to buy Debrox which is an over the counter gel you spray in your ear and then wash it out with warm water. Also said simply water would clean them ok as well.

Tuesday hard hitting stuff here at theRX

He told you the truth. Mom is an ENT Doc. One of her pet peeves is Q-Tips. I use them anyways. Prefer a bobby pen, and that gets her going even more. Lol

I know you're not in My age range, But using a bobby pen was what we use to use back in the day...

On the Q-Tip ... I use them all the time.... Not saying there is a Right way to use them... But I have found a better way... which doesn't really push wax down your ear.

Q-Tips were made to clean the Outer part of the lobe...

Wax built in your ear to protect it. and is True that the ear canal cleans itself. and it suppose to fall out by itself.
If not, that's when you need to clean it

Tilt your head to one side and pour peroxide in you ears when the fizzing stops straighten your head and the wax and peroxide runs out of your ears. I've been doing this all my life and never once had any issues or a doctor tell me I got wax build up.

If I must use a Q-tip, I'll wet it so it goes in nice and warm and it helps break up any wax buildup and I don't hurt my ears.

Did you say something? Huh?

I learned the habit from watching the Best, My PaPa! :) My Mom would get mad and call me Lil Laurence (Papa's name) in her biggest Southern Belle voice. I couldn't help but laugh...
