Everything seems to work but there is a burning smell coming from the motor. I had a belt so I changed that even though there was nothing wrong with the old one. It seems like the motor is under alot of strain while running but I can't figure out why. It did start burning on a full load of towels, at least that's when I noticed it....any tips? Really not worth having a serviceman come check it out since I could prob buy a new one for $100 more than they will charge. I do like the washer though

Thanks

Was about to say sounds like the belt. If it is in fact the motor, just buy a new one. I take it you cleaned it out rather well while in there replacing the belt too?

Yea I cleaned it out and lubed it up pretty well while I was in there. The only reason I was thinking it may not be the motor is because everything runs, it spins fast, agitates etc....it just has the burning smell coming from the motor. Could that smell just be the beginning of the motor going out? Is there a brake or something that could be putting more load on the motor?

During the agitate and rinse/spin cycles. The motor has stopped working completely now so it's done. Guess its time to get a new one

That motor is pretty indestructible About the only thing that will burn it up as you described is a bad timer feeding the high and low speeds at the same time.
Fairly common problem on Whirlpool products. Maytag is Whirlpool now. Id junk it if it needs both parts. Buy a top-loading Whirlpool that has the minimum features the wife wants, The extra money to get the Maytag or KitchenAid (also Whirlpool) name is not worth it IMO. Stay away from the Asian models, GE and Frigidoom....all junk.

I thought Maytags never break down. That's what Jesse White told me back in the day.

Thanks for the info brother. I'm not a big fan of having a mismatch set, but I like the dryer and it works like a champ so I guess I'm going to have a mismatch set
