I have a friend that I've helped set up a PPH and gather his local market...

It's started as just 5 heads and up to 20 now in a matter of weeks

He is very excited because he landed a big fish. whether he's a fish or not is yet to be determined. Most of his action is small players, the range for Most these guys is 10-100 per gam, 3 or 4 of them $100-$300 a game .... and now This "big fish" wants a $500-$1000 a game

I'm not sure this is the right move for him, but figured I'd ask some of you more experienced locals out there. Is this too much risk to take on this early? Probably a little late now, but in the future should he stick the the $500 max like everyone else has, and risk the guy taking his business else where? Or continue to pursue the market of these bigger game players?

Thoughts?

The one player will bet more then the other 19 combined. Not good. His week will depend on what one player does. Limit him to $500. Once you gather more players maybe then you can raise the limits.

Depends on Who the "Fish" is, Where did he come from ? did he see past work from said "Fish" ?

Did he Just get him ? Why ? it's Mid-season which is Usually a Red Flag

Take the guy, then layoff a piece.

think that's exactly what I'm gonna suggest he does... The action is overall outstanding (at least IMO) about $2000 a player put in play per week... but his volume is just more than the norm...

poker "pro" is known around the local poker game... no other local uses PPH, which my friend offers which is why he left his other guy... No past work, just his reputation...

Yeah like it was mentioned its not good to depend on one guy heavily every week! Granted if he loses it's a great week but if he goes on a huge winning streak you better be able to
Cover it! I would start out small and give everyone the same max play and build from there! Goodluck to your friend!

I guess I will ask the most important question that has not even been asked.

What is your friend(the bookie's) net worth?

This is the most important question.

It does not matter if the action is unbalanced.

You can make a fortune with 1 person if you got the right one.

So what if the other 19 players have less action combined then the 1 big guy.

It's all dependant on your freinds weatlh or lack of wealth.

Does your friend have 100K in cash he can get his hands on at any given time?

This is all that matters.

If you later find out this guy is a sharp then you can let him go.

Exactly I've always said a guy looking for a local after October is already blacklisted some where.

keep your limits where they need to be. don't move them for him. If he's worth keeping he'll stay. don't lay it off unless he's posting up with you.

one piece of advice for the guy.

make sure he has max payouts per week for each customer to protect himself. Usually equal to their credit limit, but its his call.

If customer doesn't like it, they can

a. stop when they get up this amount or

b. hit the road.

Remember, its his show he can make the rules. Finding an out that pays is VERY hard. If they whine about your rules, instantly get rid of them. You will save yourself a huge burden down the road.
