I have a car that was supposed to be repo'd back in 2009. During that period my life was upside down and was in the process of moving and crashing at places to live for 1 1/2 years. Bottom line is the car never got picked up. The loan of $8300 was eventually charged off. It's 4 years and 120k miles later. Can I simply take this car to a pick and pull and see if they would give me cash for it? Hasn't been registered for 4 years. Basically it's off the grid. I was thinking of selling the parts off but then I thought, "What would I do with the carcass of the car once I sold the parts? Any suggestions?

without the title, your options are limited. why not keep driving it?

Just go to the DMV and file for a LOST TITLE.. when you get it, claim ownership.

Simple

then sell it to some illegal for $500.... so they can put $2500 worth of lights, rims, mirrors and a bad paint job on it

Yep, I used to do it all the time when I would get a car or 2 from salvage to fix up and resell many years ago

wonder if I re-register it if the VIN# gets back on the active grid and the collectors come knocking again.

If you were the one it was originally financed for, be sure you have SOMEONE ELSE do the title search and claim ownership.... Don't want you to get into any trouble. Ive never done that before with a car that was repoed under my name lol.... just play it safe and have someone else do it, then sign it over to you once you get the title in hand

I believe the statute of limitations in Cali is four years for this type of debt therefore you should be fine. The collectors can come calling but they can't get anything unless you agree to it; just send them a cease-comm letter.
