Could a Heisman race that has been dominated by quarterbacks suddenly have room for a running back?

If Andre Williams keeps this up, he might make a case for being selected as a Heisman finalist.

The senior Boston College running back rushed for 220 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries against Maryland on Saturday, pushing his season total to 2,021 yards, making him the first player since Kevin Smith of UCF in 2007 to eclipse the sacred 2,000-yard mark. It’s also the 13th-best mark in FBS history (and he’s got two games to go).

Most impressively, Williams did it in 11 games. He’s averaging 183.7 yards per game, which is the best average by a back since Colorado’s Rashaan Salaam averaged 186.8 in 1994 when he won the Heisman.

Could he make it to New York? Considering Marcus Mariota and Johnny Manziel are now out of contention, it’s looking more and more likely.
