Why did the NFL put the Raiders on Thanksgiving instead of the Broncos?

Since it is on CBS they had 2 choices: Broncos or Raiders. Did they figure people are forced to watch the game because there is nothing else on so they might as well put on the Raiders?

Understood they always play on Turkey day but why put on the Raiders in possibly the showcase game of the year vice the Broncos and Manning? The NFL had 2 choices and they selected the Raiders.

Do you not think today's game is the showcase regular season game of the year for the NFL??? A game in which fans who do not normally watch sit down and watch because it is tradition? Don't you think you would want to attract more fans by showcasing the best teams in the showcase game of the year? Name another game in the NFL regular season that guarantees so many fans than 4 PM on Turkey Day?

You don't think it is a coincidence that the Heat and Lakers play the prime viewing time at 5 PM on x-mas because it is their showcase games? Why isn't the Raptors and Wiz playing primetime on X-mas? Because the NBA gets it and wants to showcase high profile teams in high profile games. The NFL should do the same thing seeing it was a good possibility the Broncos would be good and the Raiders would not be good.

I get what you were saying and wish better games were scheduled for Thanksgiving day. BUT, the NFL could put shit sliding down a wall on TV today and people would tune in....by the masses.

probably because the ratings will be huge regardless of who is playing on Thanksgiving. Then you can get your huge ratings from Dallas/Denver on a different day.

The Lions and Cowboys have been playing on Thanksgiving for as long as I can remember(and I am 58) and they don't always play high ranking or high profile teams yet people will still watch because it's the NFL. The NBA has to showcase the high profile teams on a holiday or no one will watch.

i could care less what the nba does,this is all about tradition for thanksgiving day and has been forever like someone else said..so

go kick a soccer ball or something,if you don't like the game don't watch it

A lot of jails let inmates watch football on thanksgiving, thats why the Raiders are on

The NFL does not consider the 3:30 thanksgiving game to be their "showcase" game of the year. ... in fact , in 2012 they reached a new broadcasting rights agreement with CBS that allows the NFL Network to "flexi" schedule the thanksgiving noght game. Meaning if they find the Detroit or Dallas game to be the more attractive matchup they can switch it to the night game and put the AFC vs AFC game on early. (so far they havent done that b/c the scheduled night game has been more attractive)

...SO , it sounds to me like they care more about the night game when it comes to marquee match-up.

denver vs kc will already be a marquee game.. people will watch whatever is on today.. doubtful they would schedule something that big even if dallas wasnt a guarantee game on
