That's dirty. Just doesn't feel right for a guy to lead his team to a title and then sign with the arch rival a month later.

Yankees are LIGHT YEARS behind the Red Sox in management and farm system. Hilarious...The team that DESPERATELY needs pitching gives one of the biggest contracts in MLB history to an outfielder. He'll be good for 3 or 4 years, but not 20million a year good. I hope they sign Cano to 185 million too. By all means keep wasting your money!!! LMAO

This is a horrific contract. On par with A-Rod and Pujols.

What gets me is you see these former NFL & MLB executives talk on tv about how "complicated" the business is and how difficult some of these decisons are.

There is nothing "complicated" or difficult about not giving a 30 y/o injury prone player $153 million dollars.

Athletes are alot like houses, it doesnt matter if 99% of the people think they are overpriced, all it takes is one person to agree to a number.

The Yankees are an extremely if not the most profitable in sports - the money isn't as important as to field a WINNER - the Yankees expect to go to World Series every year and win - what we may think is crazy and a waste of money isn't to the Yankees - George started all this spending and now his son seems to be continuing George's style - with the Yankees it is not about the money it's about fielding a successful team and the Yankee fans love this - all the met fans are angered by this but they also want to know when the mets are going to start spending - in N.Y. It's about winning -

[h=1]New York Yankees: Jacoby Ellsbury Lands On Worst Contracts List[/h] by Kenneth Teape 6h ago

[h=2]New York Yankees centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury has landed on ESPN’s list for worst contracts in the MLB, being ranked No.13.[/h] The New York Yankees have a glut of outfielders with not enough places to play them. With the amount of veterans that they have to try and fit into the lineup on a daily basis, the Yankees are blocking the path of younger players such as Aaron Judge.
One of those veteran players that the Yankees need to fit into their lineup is centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury. Ellsbury signed a massive deal just over two years ago, agreeing to a seven-year, $153 million contract in early December 2013 and being signed away from the rival Boston Red Sox. It is a contract that will handcuff the Yankees for a while, as Ellsbury’s production and health are already beginning to teeter off and he is only entering the third year of the deal.
Dan Szymborski of ESPN certainly thinks the Ellsbury contract is a bad one, as he landed on Szymborski’s list of the 25 biggest albatross contracts currently in the MLB. Ellsbury comes in at No.13 on the list with $110.6 million guaranteed remaining on the deal and a surplus value of -7.6 wins.

Great triple today

He is probably destined to go down as the worst free-agent signing in New York Yankees history. He is still in only the fourth season of a seven-year, $153 million contract. He has been relegated as the team’s fourth outfielder, and there is question whether there will even be room on the roster when Aaron Hicks soon returns.

But there was Jacoby Ellsbury in the sixth inning with the Yankees’ offense struggling, the score tied, two outs and the bases loaded. There was Ellsbury with a chance to make an impact, a chance to push his season RBI total to more than 20.

Ellsbury turned on Indians starter Carlos Carrasco’s 94-mph high fastball, sending it high and far, where Cleveland’s right fielder Abraham Almonte had trouble tracking it. It landed at the base of the wall. The triple cleared the bases.

“It is a huge hit from Ells,” manager Joe Girardi said after the Yankees’ 8-1 win over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday.
