Seems like the few times I go to get my oil changed at one of these places, the guy that looks under the hood,Is always totally convinced my car wont go another mile unless I have this, that, and everything else replaced.....Its never just an oil change.Today was no exception. The guy looks under the hood, and proceeds to tell me how my coolant didn't look good and should be replaced,ASAP.I looked at him and said ''Thats Amazing''he said ''Why".I proceeded to tell the guy that my radiator was just replaced 2 weeks ago,and asked him how coolant could turn so bad in 2 weeks? He just looked at the floor mumbled something and walked away.

Never again.

Glad you didn't fall for it. Unfortunately, a majority of women and old folks do...

So I always knew these guys were a scam since they always suggest hundreds of dollars in repairs every oil change. That being said, one time I went in and the guy told me I needed a new timing belt urgently. He insisted that this wasn't just a fluff repair and it was about to break. I thought he was scamming me. 20 miles later I had to pay $1700 to get a new front end put in the car when the damn thing snapped. My luck.

That's why being friends with a mechanic is so important.

My father is/was a mechanic. I always admired his honesty when it came to other people's cars. Never once did he over charge someone or lie and say the needed something they didn't. If anything he was always trying to save someone some money. This year was the first time I ever paid to get my car serviced, harsh reality.

Try changing the oil yourself, it's very gratifying. Not to mention it's easy and only takes 10 minutes.

Why would you get your oil changed at a place that hires people at $9 and requires no mechanical ability at all.

The Chevrolet dealer 5 minutes from me does it for $20. They also check all the fluids, lights...etc etc etc, and vacuum it out.

Best thing to do is never change your oil at the same place or company twice in a row; if you hear about the same problem twice in a row it might need fixing, if not don't worry about it.

Some of these new trucks like the Chevy Silverado you need to take off the bumper to change the headlight if the bulb goes out. Chevy is a piece of shit. I couldn't believe it when I googled it. Everyone had the same problem. Some of these vehicles they make em so you have to depend on the dealer.

I truly applaud your father.

I greatly appreciate people with honesty and integrity which is rare now a days.
