it seems like every week you turn on the tv and you watch espn,fs1,etc they are talking about how they are ruining the game in every sport.football is ruined as you cannot hit the QB,you can't tackle the way you were originally taught, and now they want to kill baseball by outlawing collisions at home plate.when is it going to end,....and if it don't then people are just going to lose interest in watching sports.football is almost impossible to watch anymore as its more like flag football.i mean in baseball the only person with gear on for protection is the catcher and for good reason so why ban collisions at the plate.i don't know, its all nuts to me and im getting to the point, why even watch sports,....i can't even go on here about it

It's almost as though the athletes have become too skilled, too powerful that the game is ruining itself.

There is like one home plate collision every 20 games in the MLB. This rule change is so negligible it's ridiculous.

Regarding football, players were also taught to wrap up on tackles, not launch themselves helmet first at players. The correct way to tackle was never to go for the head, so outlawing that isn't that big of a deal. QB's might be a little overprotected, but it makes sense. They are who the fans want to see play, so they are doing everything to prevent them from getting hurt. Who knows, one day you might not even be able to tackle the QB, just grabbing him might end the play. After all, who really wants to see Matt Flynn vs Shaun Hill to decide the NFC North title at the end of the year.

It's funny to hear people complain the NFL is becoming unwatchable. That couldn't be further from the truth. Apparently football is more watchable now then it has ever been, all the numbers point the NFL being stronger then ever. You may not like it personally but you are in the minority. NFL is probably more exciting now then it ever has been. Although much of that is due to some of the fast pace, pass happy offenses currently en vogue.

I think that it has always been like this but now that people are smarter and know that they can sue (even with fine print said that they can't), the game has to evolve.

Big Money business rather change the game than to continue to give away money to players after they are long done playing.

It may be more exciting and fast paced as ever but that is because you can't tackle the qb or hit the receiver. Cmon you accidently have your hand hit the helmet and its a penalty. If its blatent then flag him but just a little touch that's petty

The NFL is terrible hard to watch the only reason those numbers are so high is because of fantasy football the casual fan now watches the NFL 24/7

Now players in the NFL are having to hit receivers low around the knees
I don't know what the #'s are but I have watched several games this
year where receivers are leaving the game on stretchers because of
the rule changes...........

That's what I mean, if it's not one area it's going to be another. Also the comment about such interest in the sport anymore is largely due to fantasy football

In defense of Shaun Hill, he's one of the top three back-ups in the league. Have you seen what he's done in Detroit every time Matthew Stafford got injured? Go look at his numbers and his game log; was one of the best NFC quarterbacks in the second half of 2010 when he was a regular starter. Absolutely deserves another chance to start somewhere, but sometimes these guys get too comfortable in their situations that they don't explore other options

Oh, and concerning the topic, it is absolutely ridiculous that they're considering banning home-plate collisions... hopefully they vote it down.

And notice how the ONE example they continue to cite is the Buster Posey/Scott Cousins incident from May 2011. While the 2011 baseball season almost still feels like yesterday to me, it happened more than two years ago, when they were FIRST discussing this, and nothing of its kind has happened since. That's what makes this potential ruling such an absolute joke.

It's not just sports, though. It's the overall pussification of America that continues to effect every aspect of life (What's next? No fighting in the NHL?)

First mistake is watching espn.. Haven't put the channel on in months other than for a live game or college game day.

CFB and the NFL, you're right about the damned penalties. I've even head that the refs are supposed to throw flags when in doubt about roughing and late hits. This is unheard of in sports....If you don't see it, call it?? I find myself looking for the little flag insignia at the lower part of the screen before a good gain is over. One local advertiser even has the right to have a little yellow square ad, same color as the flag sign, at the lower right corner of the screen. During plays, it shows up and draws your eyes from the action. I'm constantly looking for flags now.

I have to admit I didn't even know who Detroits backup was. I knew Green Bay has been without Rodgers so to make my point I had to google the Lions roster to find out :)

What does watching espn have to do with mlb or the nfl changing the rules

Because they make a big deal out of nothing. For example regarding the home plate collisions. If you missed the sports news this week and the rule against them was put in place. You could watch every game of your home team for two months and probably not notice collisions weren't allowed anymore. Then maybe two months in you might possibly think to yourself that your teams catcher isn't very good at blocking the plate.
This situation might be the most negligible situation there is yet ESPN will make it to be a huge deal!

Seems they error on the side of safety but players will adjust over time. College and high school rules are even stricter so the next generation of NFL'ers will have even less issues because they will have been "brought up" without the head shots, etc.

You have to admit the fast pace offenses are awesome even without the "pussification" When I was young the most exciting part of the games were the last 2 minutes of each half when teams were in the hurry up and you didn't have to wait 40 seconds between players. Now some teams are like the 2 minute drill the whole game!

I doubt there are any more penalties now then there were 5 , 10 , 20 years ago. Someone could probably look that up,
