Shooto must be Portuguese for "freak show."

The Brazilian MMA organization plans on holding the first-ever man vs. woman professional fight this weekend in Rio de Janeiro. The promotion announced the bantamweight bout Tuesday and promoted it heavily on social media.

The competitors will be Emerson Falcao and Juliana Velasquez, who is making her pro MMA debut. At least she can only go up from this circus. To think people were up in arms about Fallon Fox fighting.

Shooto is making Elite XC look like it had the utmost integrity when it pushed Kimbo Slice to the moon. This comes on the heels of a fighter dying before weigh-ins back in September.

Falcao, who fights out of Nova Uniao with the likes of Jose Aldo and Renan Barao, posted to his Facebook that he wouldn'€™t be able to compete until next year due to injury. But now he's being promoted as being on Friday night's show, booked against Velasquez, a judoka out of Team Nogueira.

Velasquez told MMAFighting.com that it was the idea of Shooto president and Nova Uniao trainer Andre Pederneiras to hold this bout. He asked Team Nogueira for a female fighter, she said.

"I'm used to training with man every day," she said. "I'm a professional judoka and I know the adrenaline of the competition, I know how to handle this."

It might not actually happen, especially if logic and reason prevail. Osiris Maia, a member of the entity responsible for regulating Shooto events, told MMAFighting.com that no rules specifically prohibit a man from fighting a woman -- but they do prevent two people who are not of the same level being put together in a bout.

"So there's no way a man should be able to fight a woman," he said.

Accurate statement. Why is he the only one involved actually saying that?

I heard this last night but they said it was only going to be a 3 round fight and they were going to have special rules about striking and kicking to the head/face , so only a slim chance that the female could be seriously injured.

The inter-gender match has become quite fashionable in pro wrestling but imo it's not a good idea for mma.

I doubt this would ever happen in the USA.

He's in a no-win situation.

If he kicks her ass, it will be looked at in a negative light. If he gets his ass kicked, he'll never live it down.

I think it's a train-wreck waiting to happen.

The amazing thing is the guy has a lifetime record of 0-1 and was injured in the bout , the bich has never even had a pro fight. This is an undercard preliminary match.

WHY ?

If they're going to do it , at least make it a main event or mid-card match where people know who they are. This is skiimming from the bottom of the barrell.

I hope he whoops her ass so they never consider doing this again. I don't support MMA anyway.

If she were better looking, it might be worth watching.

Might give new meaning to "ground and pound"

He needs a bullet put in his head if he hits her one time. I don't care if it's a sport or not..... No man should never ever hit a woman.

First of all, you are saying that by hitting someone , he deserves to be murdered.....HELL NO

second, as my mom said, men shouldnt hit women but if a woman hits a man..................she deserves to get it back, all everyone acts civil, things are cool

third, noone is forcing her to do this ,right?

fourth, may be she will actually beat his ass??

One Pocket: "A bullet in his head if he hits her one time?" After a week or so standing in the ring being hit by her, he will eventually get hurt. Would you at least let him protect himself by holding his hands in front of his face?
