What happened to Saturday games in the NFL at the end of the season?

Yesterday seemed like a perfect opportunity for the NFL to play a 1:00 PM game, 4:30 PM game and a primetime 8:00 PM game so you don't have so many games on Sunday. I remember the NFL used to to this in fact I do remember a Pats/Jets game in the Meadowlands about 10 years ago on Saturday night.

Saturday should not affect a team's schedule as much as a Thursday/Monday night game plus the ratings should crush anything else out there. Is it because the NFL does not want to compete with some crap college bowls? Is it because there are so many bowls now compared to just 10 years ago? Just seems like a missed opportunity to showcase some NfL games.

That's true. I forgot they used to have those games. I guess we'll have to wait until the playoffs to have Sat. games again!

I was wondering the same thing. They've always had Saturday games late in the season.

I'm thinking with 50,000 College Bowl games that all changed...

They got rid of them because of almost a full year of Thursday night games. Remember, when they 1st put out the Sat night games they had 5 Thursday then 3 Saturday night games. Then they went to 7 Thursday and 1 Sat and now all TNF.

That makes sense.
