Police in the U.S. territory say they are looking for someone who stole a truck containing more than $22,000 worth of chicken eggs.
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — A thief in Puerto Rico has gotten away with the makings for one giant omelette.

Police in the U.S. territory say they are looking for someone who stole more than $22,000 worth of chicken eggs. They didn't specify exactly how many eggs are in the missing shipment.

Officers said Friday that a refrigerated truck parked in a distribution center in the north coastal town of Hatillo was taken along with the eggs inside.

Authorities said the truck was worth $35,000.

Maan Korkis just wants his truck back.
Warren police say Korkis’ semi truck containing 33,000 pounds of chicken was stolen from a storage lot in the 24000 block of Mound sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning. The lot is located on the east side of Mound, south of 10 Mile Road.
For Korkis, 35, of Sterling Heights, the semi was his lifeline. As a self-employed driver with his own truck, he now has no means to support his family.
“I have my son and my wife. I’m not going to be able to provide for them,” he said. “My wife is four months pregnant with a second child, and I have no income coming in.”
On Saturday night, Korkis departed Union Springs, Ala. and began his trek to Michigan. His final destination was to be a GFS warehouse in Brighton. He arrived in Michigan Monday afternoon after driving about 900 miles. He went home to shower and returned to the truck at about 5 p.m. Monday to retrieve some bills from a previous load requested by his employer, Global Expeditors in Dearborn. He returned to the rig one final time at 8:30 p.m. Monday. He wanted to double check that everything was locked since the trailer still contained cargo. When he returned Tuesday morning at about 6:30, the 53-foot trailer was gone.
Korkis suspects his truck was a target because the motor on the refrigerated trailer was running, and green lights were on, indicating the system was operational. Anyone walking by could see and hear the refrigeration system working.
“It was definitely someone familiar with the trucking industry,” he said of whoever stole his semi. “It was someone who knew what they were doing.”
Korkis said he has no idea how anyone broke into his truck, and he couldn’t think of anyone who might be angry with him who would have motivation.
Police said there was no evidence left at the scene and no video surveillance tapes. Korkis said the lot is fenced but it has no gate. He had been parking his truck there for about four months and was paying $100 per month.
He estimates the value of his truck at approximately $25,000, the trailer at $45,000 and the chicken cargo at about $70,000, for a total loss of about $140,000. He said he is out “a couple thousand dollars” for not making the chicken delivery and probably lost about $6,500 in income for the week. If the truck is not recovered, he could be without a delivery vehicle for about six weeks as insurance claims are processed.
“This is the first time anything like this has happened to me in the 15 years I’ve been doing this,” Korkis said.
The stolen vehicle is described as a maroon-colored 2007 Kenworth T2000 semi trailer with a sleeper cab. The license plate number is RB00899.
