Jonathan Martin was a second-round pick in 2012 Draft.

Offensive tackle Jonathan Martin -- at the center of one of the NFL's biggest controversies this past season -- is heading back to the Bay Area after the Dolphins traded him to the 49ers for a conditional pick Tuesday night.

Martin played two seasons in Miami before a bullying scandal erupted in 2013 between him and fellow Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito. Martin left the team in late October, citing emotional reasons, and levied a series of accusations against Incognito describing a pattern of harassing behavior.

The trade was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Dolphins spent a second-round pick to acquire Martin in the 2012 NFL Draft. With the 49ers, the Stanford graduate will be reunited with his former college coach, Jim Harbaugh.

The 6-foot-5, 312-pounder agreed to a four-year deal worth $4.8 million in 2012.

Martin was quick to take to Twitter to express his excitement about joining his new team:

Opportunities are few in the NFL... Can't wait to get to work #9erEmpire

"We feel that this move is in the best interests of all parties involved," Miami Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey said in a statement. "We wish Jonathan well."

The Martin-Incognito saga sent shockwaves throughout the league and ignited a conversation about how far is too far in a professional sports locker room. A subsequent investigation backed up Martin's claims, and Incognito has since apologized in the wake of the report.

He is a piece of garbage. He isn't a very good player and will use his saga with the Dolphins to fuel his lawsuit. No surprise that he has a labor law case against the Dolphins and both of his parents happen to be labor lawyers. Fuck him and I hope he never plays again in the NFL and I hope he doesn't recover a nickel in his pending lawsuit.

IF the kid don't like cursing and the like...he's gonna hate Harbaugh.

This is the perfect place for him. Now his mom can drive him to practice every day and make sure no one teases him.

Martin is a punk..... but this is probably the only spot where he could have landed as Harbaugh likes him and will protect him from the big boys.
