Wow what happened to all the hype for opening day, I remember as a kid it was huge, (2 games played down under)......Baseball to me has fallen way down the ladder, was never a huge fan but always looked forward to opening day or days...Now a Blip on the radar!

MLB did something similar in 2012 with A's/Mariners playing in Japan , i guess now they're trying it in Austrailia.

The thing that seems odd though is that the other teams still have 5 or 6 spring training games left to play while the Dodgers and D'backs will be sitting idle for a week.

LA and Arizona will not be sitting idle. They have more grapefruit league games to play. Dodgers looked very good the last 2 nights and I went 2-0 out of the gate. Probably wont get that value on Kershaw again this season.

It's really just two teams that started early. I'm not counting this as the regular season. It's dumb that they do this sort of thing.

Its even dumber that they had them open up on the opening weekend of March Madness!

Shows you what idiots run baseball.

I had no idea until I saw a commercial yday on MLB Network.

You're right , i stand corrected. ...That makes it even more odd that they play exhibition games after playing games that count.

Baseball is trying to expand just like every other American sport. Cricket is huge in Australia and they played at the most historic field in Australia. The crowd was really into it and I think it was great for the game. They had to do it the weekend before as the travel is insane.

How can the expand when the travel is impossible? Most good players from other countries come here anyway. I could see a future where there is a faster form of travel but right now it's not practical.

I don't really see the connection between cricket and baseball.

It isn't about expanding, it about branding. Bring the sport there, get a few kids introduced that aren't familiar, get an Aussie stateside and hope turns into something and then sell some games international to that market. Pretty much basics of marketing.
