What's the longest you've gone without drinking alcohol?

At age 50 I've been a lifelong drinker, since age 16. Averaging probably 3 or more drinks a day, sometimes 10 or more on a Saturday night. Longest I've been without a drink since that time was 30 days.

I wanted to see if I could get out from behind the bottle for a longer period of time

I'm at day 133 today, almost 4 1/2 months. It started out as a 100 day test (to see if I could not drink for 100 days) but I felt so good at day 100 I thought I'd aim for another 100.

Pluses: Waking up without a hangover has been wonderful. Less tension and fighting with those around me. Better state of mind, feel and look better. Saving thousands of $$

Negatives: Miss going out and partying, miss gambling drunk, the smell of beer and wine and hearing people laughing and having a good time makes me want to start up again

I'm at 285 days right now, this is the longest I've gone since age 14 (I'm 32).

It's been 14 years, Don't miss it, had some really fun times while drinking, but the bad ones outweighed the good.

Wolfie, yes I have lost weight. Not water weight either, but body fat. After a few weeks of sobriety the world definitely starts to look different

18 years quit when was 40.When it became way more trouble than its worth. I think that is the age or about where you decide if you want to live or continue down rotting away.I see a lot of people now that either dead or so physically and mentally incapable of doing any thing they are basically a shell of themselves. Now in my late 50's I have taken 9 miles hikes over the white mountains in NH. I sno skied for the first time in my life last year. And have skied all winter. In the summer I play golf 3 or 4 times a week carrying my golf bag 18 holes in 95 degree weather.My last doctors vist a few weeks he commented how good I looked.
In conclusion I wasted 40 years of my life with boozing. Looking back it was like being in jail for for 40 years, because the drinking life limits so much.

Pretty strong statement. I suppose you drank very heavily. I am healthy and enjoy everything you mentioned above. Never once has drinking affected activities for me personally......unless I am playing a round with some old friends and it usually turns into some heavy drinking.....In which I agree with you....it makes golf tough. But that may be once a year and it's not the golf that is the main focus that day.

i dont drink often... drunk once in 2014 thus far....

6 pack of beer will last me 2+ months in the house.

if i'm out and there's an interesting looking cocktail, ill get one....

longest without a single drink... probably 3-4 months

I went 4 months when I was deployed to the desert (in 2006)....then a British ship pulled into port and I got an invite to come on board!!

I have never had a "drinking problem"...sure, I've acted like an idiot when drunk several times in my life, but it's never caused me many problems. I'm 43 years old and I enjoy a cocktail, beer, adult beverage occasionally. Not sure why someone would have to quite cold turkey and never look back unless they have an addictive personality or are an "alcoholic". I run quite a bit, so being hungover isn't very good for me....so that's helped me curb some of the nights when I probably would have had 1 or 2 too many.

Drank just 1 time when I was 16 years old.

Hot humid day, middle of summer, friend stole a full bottle of brandy from his fathers.

Trying to outdo each other we were pounding it (between 3 of us) I am positive I drank the most by the time the bottle was polished off. I was feeling great, like nothing was wrong. So we started walking back home, then BAM!! It hit me all at once. I felt dizzy, nauseous, and could barely walk. We were all struggling to make it home. When I got home I was puking up a storm, feeling the cold toilet bowl on the side of my head felt so good. I went to lay in my bed and it was worse. The room was spinning, and when I would close my eyes, it would stop spiing that way, and start spinning faster the other way, which made me puke (dry heave) some more. I prayed to God to make it go away and I would never drink again.... I guess God listen and knocked me out. I woke up about 2am with the worst headache and cramps I have ever had.

I have never drank since that day.
