Comet slams into earth and we all die. Years from now aliens will see the NFL record books and tapes and fall in love with this sport as we have. Who will they say was the best NFL quarterback?

I'm a lifelong dolphins fan and I love Dan Marino. I also love the work ethic by Peyton Manning who is in a class of his own. But I cannot say anything other than Tom Brady. Dude is just better than the rest of the human race

This may represent the main reason sports are so interesting.

Totally impossible to measure or determine.... but still fun to talk about!

I think these aliens would be most entertained by the run and shoot so i think they would like Warren Moon.

If these aliens see tape of Eric Hipple they will leave and never come back to this galaxie again.

My personal vote would be Johnny U or Joe Montana.

Honestly, I think after Brady and Montana, you got Peyton then after that there is a big space between the next pack of QBs.

Tough to say because rules have been changed over the years. How good would Unitas, Staubach, Bradshaw be with todays rules? How much weight do you put on the fact that the older qbs called their own games and didnt have plays sent into their helmets? How much weight do you put on the fact that if you breath on a qb today you get flagged? Too many variables to make a decision

Nick (Am I right, or am I right?) Pappagiorgio.....

All good reasons for what I sited as the impossibility to reasonably measure or choose the GOAT.

I will add one absolute fact to your post though. Regardless of, or in spite of, his championships.... Bradshaw is nowhere near the same planet as a few of the all time great QB's. Leader of a great team. Not at all a great QB talent wise.

good point but no matter what the rules were the opposing quarterback was stuck with the same advantage or disadvantage.

That being said, Tom Brady has a career .775 winning percentage. Pretty unbelievable imo

Marino....if he played today, 6000+ yards and 60 TD's

Brady, Manning, Brees, etc...they would not have done jack back in the 80's and 90's. Just like Lebron, he is and has been playing in the worst era of NBA that there ever has been. He would be half the player if he played back when.

You are a powerful man Anotherday?. Balls on accurate on the Lebron comments! However, the three QBs you mentioned could have had success in any era. People just need to realize it will be crazy to try to pick the best. This, of course, because of the vast difference in rules and the overall game situations presented in different eras.

Marino. I agree with the above. He might break 6000 with regularity. Stafford broke 5000 a few years ago and isn't in the same stratosphere as guys like Manning and Rodgers. Marino in 1984 was the best year any qb has ever had. He threw for for over 5000 and 48 td's without a 5 yard rule. His ability to to manipulate the pocket and the quick release are the best the league has ever seen.

Tom Brady. He has the rings and he's always one of the top statistical passers despite working with different WRs every year. Patriots bring some burnout has been off of waivers and Brady makes him look like a star. He's the best.

Great post, and I would like to add. After how ever many pages.... nobody will have agreed on anything or proven anything due to the reasons I have posted.

I think raw talent, Marino was the best....He is the only reason I became a lifelong Miami Dolphins fan even though I live 5000 miles away in Hawaii.

but I admit, there is something about Joe Montana and Tom Brady that has allowed them to win consistently over their careers even though the other factors around them have changed. over 70% win percentage is insane when you span 10-15 years
