When Peyton Manning became a free agent following his release from the Indianapolis Colts in 2012, he had one request for his agent while trying to find a new team: He didn't want to be paid more than Tom Brady.

Stew Milne/USA TODAY SportsLongtime rivals Tom Brady and Peyton Manning combine to make $33.3 million in average salary.

Tom Condon, Manning's agent, relayed the story of Manning's free agency in an interview with MMQB.com.

Condon said with a dozen teams interested in Manning's services, he believed he would be able to secure a deal of $25 million per season for the future Hall of Fame quarterback, who would pick the team he would play for before any negotiations ensued.

When Manning decided to sign with the Broncos, he asked Condon: "What does Tom Brady make?"
"$18 million a year," Condon replied, according to MMQB.com.

"Then I don't want to make a penny more than that," Manning said.

The agent told MMQB.com that Manning was 'incensed' at him when he found out the Broncos' offer was for $19.4 million annually, telling his agent, "I told you I didn't want to make more than Brady."

Condon ultimately apologized. He called Manning's wife, who said, "I'll take care of it" and then persuaded Manning to take the deal, according to MMQB.com.

After a disappointing playoff exit in his first season with Denver, Manning won his fifth league MVP award this season, leading the Broncos to the Super Bowl, where they lost to the Seattle Seahawks.

Since Brady will likely retire a Patriots player, we'll probably never really know if he truly is a better QB than Manning, since Peyton has been dominant on two different teams vs 1 with Tom.

How do we know Brady isn't living off of the Patriots' system & offense & wouldn't be near successful elsewhere?

Let's not forget there's been 2 QBs just before Brady (Bledsoe) and in between (Cassel) who were very good in that Pats' system...

bledsoe played 18 games in 'system' with belichick.. Was 5-13. Cassell didnt even make playoffs with the undefeated* roster from year before.

But ok.

I don't even know where to begin responding to your post.

I'm hoping that you posted this stuff just to bust balls, and not because you believe this.

next you'll be telling us that it was Brady's receivers that made him look good all these years. Lokk at the difference makers they've been after leaving......can you see where I'm going with this ?

Peyton is a douche.
I'm a huge Patriot fan, but I have never and will never utter these words.

I could not disagree with you more...

lol

That is like saying how do we know the Phil Jackson and the triangle offense didn't make Michael Jordan.

c'mon man

Brady has played with more lineup changes then Manning, it's not even close. Manning is surrounded by superstars year in and year out, and usually the same pro bowlers year in and year out

Brady has played with more offensive coordinators, playing for a new one every two or three years. Manning played for 1 his entire career in Indy

Brady played with a running offense, a tight end passing offense, a short toss passing offense and a long toss passing offense. Is there any offense he hasn't played in? Manning looks like he's playing in the same offense he played in for his entire career. Has he played more than one style?

we're talking about two of the all-time great QB's in the history of the game, and there's a lot of bad arguments made to try and prove who's better. But this one has to be one of the worst, not even in the ball park

c'mon man, please

2008 Pats' schedule was one of the all time easiest schedules

for some weird reason, I would expect nothing more

Did you know? Brady didn't play in 2008?

or are you trying to minimize his 18-1 2007 season when he lost in the SB because of a fluke play in the final minute?

He was actually saying that a big reason Cassel did so well that year is because their schedule was so easy.

it's funny hache says brady has had things benefitting him. I'd say its been completely opposite for awhile now really

'06 loses Branch and WRs for the year are total castoffs, leads to Pats loss when they gain like 100 yards 2nd half @ Indy
'07 gets a prime Randy Moss and helps revitalize his career. Tears ACL in '08 and by the time he gets back Moss isn't really the same player anymore. Welker tears ACL week before the '09 playoffs
'10 Moss gets dealt 4 weeks into season, has 2 rookie TEs...#1 scoring offense in the league
'11-13 Gronk is hurt or out every single game the Pats got eliminated. Can't think of 1 QB in NFL history that has had his top weapon out for the game he has been eliminated in 3 straight years. This has become underrated but its completely unprecedented...
'12 Hern kills someone, out for the year. Wes Welker goes to Denver, replaced by Danny Amendola who can't really do anything

My Lord I didn't mean to offend any Brady fans but can you tell me what I posted that wasn't accurate.?!

Tom Brady has been a dominant QB for the New England Patriots = Fact

Peyton Manning has been dominant for the Indianapolis Colts AND the Denver Broncos = Fact

Anyone who's followers sports all of their life (the majority of us here) know that most of the time when a player who has starred on one team for years, and then is traded or signs on with a new team, usually disappoints and doesn't look like the same great player anymore.

Im a Bucs fan and NFL fan in general, so don't like Brady Or Manning any more than the other.

So 2 questions:

Are the things I posted regarding Manning & Brady fact or opinion? (Fact)

Secondly, if Brady was cut loose or traded for whatever reason, and went & stunk it up on another team, what would your excuses be? That his best days are behind him & the new team got him too late, or something else?

Stop crushing on this guy for just a second and be a realist..

You said pats had a great system that produced Bledsoe Brady and cassell.. Bledsoe played 18 games in this system and he and the pats stunk.
