I am new to buying stocks on my own and was wondering the best site to use for a newbie like me. I have an IRA that is managed by a friend of mine who is a financial advisor who uses TD Ameritrade. Any info would be great.

I love Ameritrade. Its amazing that anyone would use a full service broker in this day and age with all the information they give you for free

i've been using optionshouse for 3 years now, and have never had any problems or complaints. easy to use, good customer service when you need it, lots of good info to help you out, and best of all cheap trades (3.95 each way).

I would definitely consider Interactive brokers as (I believe) they have one of the better platforms and equally good trade fees ($1 stock trade and 0.50-1.50 per option).
