That Brewers fans still get all gooey and sentimental. They stood and cheered Ryan Braun for his unsightly first at-bat as if he is going to solve the polar vortex, fix all the roads and still hit 40 homers.

Idiocracy at it's finest. The guy cheated for years, lied about it, Publicly called the drug tester out, then gets caught, and these moron's say turn the other cheek. If I were paying for season tickets and his salary the last thing I would do is cheer him..

I am surprised they did this. Guy is good, but he did lied blatantly to the fans and they accept him back so quickly ...milw will be in more trouble this year than expected I bet.

Its really hard to believe for me. Maybe if he got caught and apologized. But he vehemently lied over and over and over and over again. He ruined another guys career in the process. He had numerous chances to come clean and instead just went further down the rabbit hole. The whole thing was shameless and cowardly. Pretty shocked on that one

maybe bc aside from injecting drugs to help him perform to win, he's a nice guy outside of mlb. it's all about 2nd chances...if he was drunk driving and killed 3 people then i wouldve been shocked for the standing ovation.

It doesn't matter. Braun knows that he is a fraud and will never be seen as anything but a fraud. A narcissistic, unrepentant facade.

guy was/is beloved in Milwaukee.
he lied out of his ass b/c he didnt want to lose money, and reputation - most people would do the same.

that being said - he was still a big part of the community and very well liked (since the Brewers usually do not keep stars, everyone here was drawn to him) - therefore you are quick to forgive.

kind of how spouses will stick with their significant other after they find the others cheated on them - you know what you once had and will work on it to preserve it (and gloss over the giant mistakes)

People are generally very forgiving people. Ya he lied. Everyone lies. Just look at politicians and actors who did drugs and/or cheated on their spouses for example.

Plus it's been a long time since he was suspended. I'm a Brewer fan and would have sat on my hands if I had been there. But it was Opening Day and believe me, most of the crowd was drunk. They get caught up in the moment. He's one of ours so they cheer, just as Cub fans cheered Sammy Sosa and Giant fans cheered Barry Bonds. If he would have played right after the announcement last July, he would have been booed. Life goes on.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — All Ryan Braun needed to shake his slump was a trip to Philadelphia.
Braun hit three home runs and tied a franchise record with seven RBIs to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 10-4 victory Tuesday, spoiling the Phillies’ home opener.
Braun connected twice off Kyle Kendrick (0-1), snapping the longest homerless drought of his career. The 2011 NL MVP came in with only three singles in 20 at-bats this season.
But Braun, who is bothered by a right thumb injury, felt just fine — as usual — in Philadelphia. He has 10 homers and 21 RBIs in 20 career games at Citizens Bank Park.
“It’s a good ballpark to hit in,” Braun said. “And, I enjoy competing against Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard.”
Coming off a three-game sweep of the World Series champion Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, the Brewers won their fourth straight game and improved to 5-2.
Kyle Lohse (1-1) allowed three runs and seven hits in five innings, walking five.
Braun was booed in his first game in Philly since serving a 65-game suspension for violations of Major League Baseball’s drug agreement and labor contract. He also got an earful last week in Boston.
It didn’t bother him.
“It’s very motivating,” Braun said. “It’s nothing new for me.”
He hit a three-run shot to left in the third to put the Brewers up 4-1, ending his streak of 98 plate appearances without a homer. He hadn’t hit one since May 22, 2013, against the Dodgers. Braun’s solo homer in the fourth made it 6-1. He then launched a three-run drive off Brad Lincoln in the eighth.
“He’s a special player,” Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. “There’s no better way to silence the crowd.”
Braun also turned in a defensive gem. He saved two runs with a diving catch on Carlos Ruiz’s sinking liner to right to end the second inning.
“That was a big play,” Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said. “It changed the momentum.”
