The Miami Marlins were lucky enough to start the season with seven home games and for Jose Fernandez to start two of those games. The Marlins took away five wins out of the first seven before getting a break Monday to prepare for a road trip which will take them to Washington and Philadelphia. The five wins were more impressive than you think.
Since last year, everyone was waiting for outfielder Giancarlo Stanton to heat up and it took him awhile last season to do so. He battled injuries all season long and still managed to hit 20-plus home runs. This year is a completely different story as Stanton already has two home runs (both of them bombs) and 12 RBIs to start the year. Stanton also has some protection around him which has led to the hot start of newcomer and third baseman Casey McGehee.
McGehee is batting .375/.467/.625 through his first 24 at-bats. Something no one expected because he was coming off a year with the Rakuten Golden Eagles of the Japanese Pacific League. Since Japan is considered to be Quadruple-A, McGehee’s assimilation back into the majors has been astounding. With his hot start Miami needs him to keep it up. McGehee and Stanton are the only two in double-digit RBI on the Marlins.
Fernandez has anchored the pitching for the most apart winning two games in the first five. Behind him, the Marlins are only going to be more dangerous if the rest of the league sleeps on them.
Miami faces the Washington Nationals Tuesday with Henderson Alvarez taking the mound looking to bounce back from a shaky first start of the season.

This team is for real.

18-15
Miami improved to a major league-best 16-5 at Marlins Park, and is 7-1 on the current homestand with one game left. The Marlins clinched the series and have won seven of their eight home series, but they're 2-10 on the road.

OF NOTE SP Henderson Alvarez: has the most shutouts of any active pitcher with 65 career starts or less.

First place fish

As one of baseball’s early surprises, the 19-15 Miami Marlins are tied with the Washington Nationals for first place in the National League East.

This team is getting pitching from other starters besides Fernandez. They are getting hitting from others than Stanton too.

beating up on the AL

THE Miami Marlins beat the Texas Rangers 8-5 on Tuesday night for their record-tying 13th consecutive interleague victory.
The 13-game interleague winning streak matched the major league record shared by the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays, who both reached that mark in 2004. The Marlins wrap up their quick two-game set in Texas on Wednesday.

At 53-53, the Marlins have climbed back to the .500 mark for the first time since June 25 when they were 39-39. They trail the Nationals by five games in the NL East.

''They've got the ability to roll off like they're rolling right now,'' Nationals manager Matt Williams said.
