Starting pitcher Edwin Jackson and the Chicago Cubs have fallen to the St. Louis Cardinals for the second day in a row. A game that was delayed by rain for awhile, received mixed results by Jackson who ended up taking the loss today against the Cardinals.
I was somewhat excited when I first heard that Jackson had agree’d on a contract with the Cubs, until I found out how much the deal was going to be worth. We threw way too much at Alfonso Soriano, and now we’re throwing $52 million at someone who finished the 2013 season with a 4.03 ERA.
Jackson has fans feeling some mixed emotions when it comes to him being apart of the starting rotation. He’s had a couple solid outings with the Cubs, but was unable to pick up victories because of the bullpen. So far this season, Jackson has picked up three start.
His first start was against the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 2, a game in which he finished five and one-third innings, gave up two hits and was charged with one earned run while striking out five batters. Not that bad of an outing. That is, until his next start against the Pirates again, this time at Wrigley Field.
Jackson was pulled after four and two-third innings after allowing nine hits, six earned runs with only four strikeouts. Today against the Cardinals, he made it through six innings after receiving a little bit of a break thanks to the rain delay.
He was charged with four earned runs off eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts, raising his ERA up to 6.30 on the young season. The fact of the matter is, Jackson has some value to him, but there’s no way he’s worth $52 million.

He is horrible. Remember that dirty no-hitter he pitched a few years ago. The guy had like 11 walks.

</figure>Jackson was reassigned to minor-league camp Saturday, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.
Jackson gave up three homers in 11 innings with the big-league team this spring -- not good enough to put any real heat on A.J. Cole for the fifth starter job. The right-hander seemed done as a starter a few years ago, but he's made a combined 26 starts in the majors over the past two seasons. It seems likely he will resurface somewhere in 2018.
